COAST GUARD, NAVY CONDUCTING JOINT EXERCISE
DHS: Dept. Homeland Security ^ | Donnie Brzuska

Posted on 05/31/2006 5:39:25 PM PDT by SandRat

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Coast Guard and Navy will be conducting a joint exercise tomorrow between 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Cumberland Sound, Ga., designed to test the Coast Guard's ability to deter, detect and disrupt hostile acts direct at an escorted U.S. Naval vessel.

During the exercise, Coast Guard and Naval vessels will be utilizing aggressive vessel tactics and firing blank ammunition from machine guns. This is to provide the most realistic means of evaluating unit capabilities, tactics, doctrine and plans.

Coast Guard units routinely work in the Kings Bay, Ga., area to provide security for security for vessels transiting to and from secure facilities. Exercising these crews in the environment in which they operate on a daily basis provides the most realistic measure of their abilities.

Boaters are reminded that a 500-yard security zone will be established around the exercise vessels. This security zone will move down the Cumberland Sound as the exercise progresses. The Coast Guard is also issuing a broadcast notice to mariners on VHF marine radio channel 16 with the specifics of the security zone.

The criminal penalties for violating a Coast Guard issued security zone are a $250,000 fine and imprisonment up to 10 years.

The actual scenario of the exercise deals with the escort of a Navy asset through the King's Bay area. Security considerations prohibit the release of further details of the exercise. No actual Navy assets will be escorted during the exercise.

"Coast Guard units routinely work ... to provide security for security for vessels..."
At one of my former workplaces there was guy with the title "manager of product management". We called him "MPM". It was years ago, and he must be MPMPM by now, if not higher.
