Texans put on border watch

By Catherine Elsworth in Los Angeles
(Filed: 03/06/2006)

An American state is installing security cameras linked to the internet along its 1,000-mile Mexican border to enable citizens to monitor illegal immigration and drug smuggling from their homes.

The armchair border patrol will be given a free telephone number to alert authorities to any criminal activity they see.

Texas is investing $5 million (£2.65 million) in the "virtual border watch". Rick Perry, the state governor, said it would deploy surveillance cameras with night vision at "criminal hot spots and common routes used to enter this country".

Images from the several hundred cameras will be sent to federal, state and local authorities as well as the internet so "concerned Americans can help protect our nation through online neighbourhood watch programmes".

"I look at this as no different from the neighbourhood watches we have had in our communities for years and years," Mr Perry said.

He said the scheme "will help Texas fill gaps in border security left by inadequate federal funding and action".

On Wednesday the Department of Homeland Security announced that Texas would suffer a 30 per cent cut in counter-terrorism funding.

I love it, but it's very open to manipulation by the pro-illegal side.

Yeah, it's like the Republican Liberty Caucus. It gives the natives something to do so they won't keep bugging us for change. Notify the authorities? The voicemail you will reach prolly won't tell you what a waste of money the whole virtual border thing is.

They did this right after they took away our Texas Internet hunting. I do not advocate shooting everyone and everything that comes across the border. But some of the herd needs thinning. Starting with the coyotes. The least they could do is hotlink to someone that cares. That is NOT ICE or CBP. And local LEO is not responsible for the border. This is a useless platitude aimed at the northeast folk that do not know any better.

Counter-terrorism funding would help keep the current administration from selling out this country. I can understand why Bush and his flunkies would want to cut funds. They would have some credibility if they were willing to cut all government funding by thirty percent. I won't wait for that to happen.

I like your idea about thinning the herd of illegal aliens. That's the question to ask our elected leaders. "Are you going to sit on your ass and let others solve another problem for you?"

It just takes a lot of patience and time. Plus some good programs to work with and they are all different.

And to think this whole unnecessary mess could be avoided if the government simply denied jobs and benefits to anybody who's not holding a Green Card. All that's needed is a big, fat fine and a vigorous program of law enforcement against businesses who hire these invaders. Step two is even easier; STOP handing out government benefits, Federal and State, to all illegals. If Bush would only enforce the laws we already have............., it's maddening. He's the most arrogant man to ever sit in the Oval Office, because the entire nation is standing up and telling him we don't want any more illegals and we want the ones already here to be sent back.

And to think this whole unnecessary mess could be avoided if Mexico simply provided jobs and benefits to their citizens. All that is needed is a big, fat incentive and a vigorous program of Mexican law enforcement against smugglers that bring these invaders. Step two is even better; START Mexican government benefits, Federale and State, to all of their citizens. If Vicente would only enforce the laws the Mexicans already have............., it's maddening. Vicente's the most arrogant man to ever sit in Mexico City (except for Santa Anna, whose @ss was kicked twice by Texans and the US), because his entire nation is voting with their feet and telling him they don't want to live in squalor and corruption and want the USA to violently overthrow the corrupt Mexican government with military force.

This is not America's fault. Much as you would like it to be. This is the fault of Mexico, their government, and their people.

Perry is an idiot. He's doing this to placate a percentage of the voting populace in an election year.

Ole Rick did not fool me none. We sent some boys out and got them webcam things to set out in the hogpens. Dual purpose technology. A man can watch pigsh!t while the governor is slinging it.
