I also wanted to add a sad story while all you horsey people are here in one place, in case you didn't catch it.
This week, six prize racehorse stallions were killed in a stable fire in Hondo, NM. At least one of them was a thoroughbred, maybe two. The rest are well known quarter horses, one owned by Toby Keith, named The Down Side.
There was an excellent story in one of the horse publications about all the offspring of these six and all their wins and prize money - it was a huge total, but now I can't find it again, so here are some of the horse details from an AP story:
" ... Among the former race horses were Favorite Trick, the 1997 Horse of the Year as a 2-year-old; Fredricksburg, last year's Quarter Horse Racing Champion Aged Stallion; The Down Side, the winner of the 2003 Champion of Champions-G1; and Saratoga Six, which was undefeated in his sole year of racing.
...
Favorite Trick raced through age 3 and retired with a dozen wins from 16 starts and earnings of $1.7 million. Fredricksburg retired with seven wins and earnings of $369,302.
The Down Side raced in a partnership between track owner R.D. Hubbard and Toby Keith won six of nine starts and earned $361,792.
The two other horses killed in the fire were Southern Cartel and 12-year-old Gone Hollywood. ..."

The property is owned by RD Hubbard, who also owns the track at Ruidoso.
Thank you for posting the link to the Barbaro update thread. I didn't know there was one.
