The AFSC was founded in April 1917 in opposition to US participation in WWI. It served in support of draft-dodgers. Reorganized in 1929, under Clarence Pickett it was a determined leftwing organization for the next 20 years.
During the Cold War the AFSC participated in many Communist fronts, and its Student Peace Service Committee was active during the Korean War in support of Soviet war aims.
If you wonder where the modern day Marxists and Democrat lefties got the expression "Speak Truth to Power", it comes from an AFSC staff study distributed in 1955, and has been called a paen in praise of extreme pacifism. The AFSC remains to this day a left wing operation.
