Politics is clouding message of antiwar activist Sheehan
The Buffalo News ^ | June 15,2006 | MARK SOMMER

When Cindy Sheehan burst on the national scene, it was as an aggrieved mother whose son had died in Iraq. Plainspoken and unscripted, Sheehan delivered an easily relatable story that gave her a kind of moral authority. Since then, some have questioned whether Sheehan has strayed too far politically.

In January, she denounced President Bush as a terrorist while standing alongside Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, an ally of Fidel Castro's who has said he is prepared to repel a U.S. invasion.

The same month, she was arrested at the State of the Union address for wearing a T-shirt reading, "2,245 Dead. How Many More?" and again in March at a United Nations protest in New York City.

This weekend, Sheehan will appear locally at two events supporting American military deserters living in Canada.

Sheehan will be in Kleinhans Music Hall at 7 p.m. Friday, joined by military veterans against the war, other parents of slain soldiers and political satirist Barry Crimmins. The benefit for the War Resisters Support Campaign in Toronto is sponsored locally by the WNY Peace Center.

On Saturday, she and the others will take part in "A Festival of Resistance" picnic at 1 p.m. in Lions Sugarbowl Park, Fort Erie., Ont., bringing together Army deserters in Canada and Americans against the war.

The author has clearly bought in to the ridiculous assertion by Maureen Dowd that Sheehan's moral authority is "absolute". He clearly needs to be disabused of that silly notion by reading Ann Coulter's Godless...

Ma'am, I am sorry, but your son is dead. He chose to serve, bravely, knowing the risks, and paid the price of freedom because HE understood what it costs.

However, if you are so busy traveling the world that you can't find time to properly give him a headstone, it's pretty clear that this is more about you than him. The peace you propose so blythely on TV and in photo-ops set up by the Dinosaur Media is the peace of Chamberlain, against an enemy that would kill you, your family, your neighbors and your countrymen, and see you in burka or shot in the head in a soccer stadium as an example of what happens to an "uppity" woman. If you think you can make peace with that mentality, by all means we'll take up a collection and ship you to Iran to (briefly) be our right hand of fellowship. Let us know how that peace thing works out as you join the Pile of Infidels.

You may have no time in your busy schedule to erect a headstone on your son's grave, but you certainly have found time to spit on it.

I made the mistake of trying to reason with a Sheehadi the other day. It didn't go well for her to say the least.

I suggested that maybe she should take a more honest assesment at her willingness to accept terrorist propaganda. That sent her into a rage of saying the president should be hung and we "hate fillled conservanazis" should be rounded up and sent away. The best part was when her fellow liberals jumped her ass about wanting death and concentration camps.

I see that she's closed her account at that site.

i thought the thread title was sarcasm - but it's the actual headline. One of the single stupidest statements I've ever read.

So much for the intellect of that pathetic puke.

Let me conclude by saying, that if I was faced with either mating with Cindy Sheehan, or being castrated, I would ask, no BEG for the blade, rusty or not.

Plainspoken and unscripted, Sheehan delivered an easily relatable story that gave her a kind of moral authority.

And that is EXACTLY what Ann Coulter is going on about.

Her story does NOT give her any "moral authority." We have got to quit allowing "sobbing hysterical women" to run over us.
