COALITION and Afghan troops killed about 45 Taliban insurgents in strikes in southern Afghanistan overnight, as two soldiers were killed in combat operations in the east, the US-led force said.
About 40 insurgents were killed in an attack on a "known enemy camp" in Uruzgan province, while another five were killed in a separate operation in the same province, the coalition said.
The two coalition soldiers were killed while on patrol in the eastern province of Kunar, it said, without releasing their nationalities.
The larger coalition attack was in the west of Uruzgan where "coalition forces engaged the enemy in a compound, killing an estimated 40 insurgents while they were meeting at a known enemy camp," a statement said.
Coalition forces waited until more than 50 people were present at the meeting before attacking, coalition spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Paul Fitzpatrick said.
"The compound was severely damaged, and we anticipate most of those present were killed," he said.
The Taliban at the meeting included men from a cell that made bombs, financiers and area leaders responsible for numerous attacks, the coalition statement said.
The second attack took place northeast of the provincial capital Tirin Kot, a separate statement said.
Afghan and coalition forces raided a known Taliban compound, killing five insurgents. One US soldier was wounded and was in a stable condition.
The two coalition soldiers were killed near the Kunar provincial capital Asadabad when their vehicle struck a bomb planted in the road.
Around 30 coalition soldiers have been killed in action in Afghanistan this year, most of them Americans who form the bulk of the US-led coalition that is hunting down Taliban and other militants in the south and east of the country.
looks like we are winning.. somebody tell that to Al Murthawi.
yeah, tell murtha the scumbag/he needs to resign
Get some guys!
Aww, that's a shame.
I hate for there to be any coalition casulties, but the ratio of enemy dead to ours is impressive. There's no doubt who is winning.
From the CNN ABCCBSNBCWPNYT wannabees @ PRAVDA
Nuff said.
What are we teaching our boys???
Abe was a smart man. That picture would make a great fax for that slimeball Murtha F*%#ker!
The left has a problem with this but can't say it out loud.

BY the way, maybe the college grads over at the Irey campaign can fix the website to explain that Murtha voted for the Rangel bill that even Rangel voted against.
45 too few
Maybe you could write them about it.
Many Dems oppose Health Savings Accounts, which are purchased by the uninsured 33% of time, since they are affordable. I find they are purchased by older, and often "sicker" people since they cost less but also offer a great deal of freedom in seeking care.
Dems prefer to sabototage the existing healthcare system with high cost plans so that they can justify the installion a massive new single payer nightmare, funded by a new 15% payroll tax that won't even begin the cover the costs. Even our current system is already funded 65% by the government.
His betrayal extends far beyond the war, to every policy issue he votes on.
ROFL! I like the beginning of the "Bubble Boy" episode where the lady is blubbering about the poor little boy, hands a tissue to Jerry, and he uses it to wipe the corner of his mouth with it. Hilarious - that's how I feel about the scumbag terrorists too.
