Boy Once Falsely Accused Arrested(double shooting)

CALUMET PARK, Ill. - A boy who won a $2 million settlement with the city of Chicago after being wrongly accused of murdering an 11-year-old girl in 1998 has been arrested in a double shooting in a south suburb, according to a news report.

The boy, now 15, was caught committing the crime on video surveillance with his older brother, Calumet Park Cmdr. Mel Davis told the Chicago Sun-Times for its Saturday editions.

"He turned around and looked at the camera with a gun in his hand," Davis said. "It doesn't get any clearer than that."

One of the shooting victims, whose name was not released, was on life support at an area hospital, Calumet Park police Chief Mark Davis told the paper. The other victim suffered a bullet wound in the leg, but has talked to investigators.

Calumet Park police declined to comment to The Associated Press on Saturday and a spokesman for the prosecutor's office did not immediately return a telephone call.

The shooting happened around noon Wednesday at a gas station. The victims were parked in a car at the station when the 15-year-old allegedly approached the driver's side door and his brother approached the passenger's side, each holding handguns, the police chief said.

The teenager has not given a statement to police because his mother is "concerned for his safety and wanted to be in the room with him while he was being questioned," Mel Davis said.

In 1998 the teen, then 7, and another boy, then 8, were accused in the death of Ryan Harris, making them the youngest murder suspects in the nation at the time. It took almost a month before they were cleared in the killing after tests showed semen on the girl's clothing could not have come from the children.

DNA tests later led prosecutors to charge Floyd Durr, a convicted sex offender, who pleaded guilty in April and was sentenced to life in prison.

I think you're right. But still $2 million, can anybody smoke that much? But after taxes maybe it was a lot less.

But after taxes?

And lawyers.

A house with furnishings, a couple of cars, clothes, a vacation or two. . . It goes pretty quick.

In the early 80's I knew 2 young lads that on their 18th they each recived 150 thousand from a trust fun.

It was gone in a few years spent on cars drugs and girls.

The oldest was latched onto by a gal twice is age funny how she did not stick around once all the cash was gone.

With a decent job and invested properly they could have retired young and had a good time after wards. But they did not have to smart of a up bringing.

I knew a kid just like that. Got $80K when grandma died. Among other things, he bought matching racing motorcycles for himself and his friend. In 6 months his friend still had his bike, he didn't--had to sell it to pay bills. His girlfriend helped him spend a good portion of the cash, too. In the end he had nothing to show for the money.

No taxes. I believe such a settlement is "replacement of value" and is not subject to income tax.

Their money should have been held in the trust fund for about fifteen more years before it was released, or released and spent only for college, and then only for college expenses they couldn't provide for themselves through summer employment. They way they'd have learned how important money was and how to manage it before each came into a significant amount he was incapable of handling.

This is where the two million he won should go. It's called restitution. What a dumbass.

"He turned around and looked at the camera with a gun in his hand," maybe he has an evil twin?

I know a guy here, at the local rescue mission, that won the FL Lotto back in the 80's. He got an 11 Million dollar lump sum payment, after taxes.

After 8 years of drugging, he was flat broke. He now lives are the RM.

Everyone can voice their opinion about what has happen with this child and his mother, but no one will ever know how this child has suffered from his past and how it affects both him and his mother, but that child and his mother. So having all said, until anyone of you guys have actually been through this situation, can fit their shoes and proceed to walk in them then your comments are worthless, because that'll only make them (comments) useless comments from typical people who don't have space to talk about anyone else.
