I think the author is referencing gender. Or perhaps the two-term limit--which, arguably, she already served.

And who might that be? And will that person, if he exists, be acceptable to 51% of the electorate?
I don't know yet, we're about two years removed from the primaries. Condoleeza Rice may be the person, if she has the right ideas about spending and guns.

There's always some "rather be wrong than elect the president" folks out there stupid enough to knowingly help elect the Dhimmicrat candidate rather than get some of what they want. The time to get all activist on their asses is between the elections.
The alternative (a.k.a. sure loser / sore loser) parties have an impact on both of the major parties.
In 1944 FDR won a majority of the popular vote. Since 1944, among Democrats elected to the presidency, only LBJ has done so.

I think he is pulling a fast one by saying Thurmond woud take votes aaway from Dewey. that was ridiclous. I am afraid he is pulling a fast one. If he pulls a fast one there then I think that just about everything else could be a fast one to.

So, in other words, if hillary is the other candidate, you will vote GOP irrespective of credentials?
It seems there is another important consideration beside the magnitude of the opposition's evilness: The War on Terror.
Do you really want to hand over the prosecution of this war to the Ds??

I have to respectfully, but adamantly, disagree with your conclusions.
If the GOP puts up a candidate who is Democrat light, why in the world should I be obligated to vote for that person?
The GOP doesn't own my vote and when they put up lousy candidates and pass lousy and unconstitutional laws, they do not even have my interests in mind.
Do I want the Dems? Hell no. But it is the nice republicans who are making socialism acceptable in this country. Every time the vile and nasty Democrats push too hard and too far, the American people smack them down. Then we get a compassionate conservative who does what the Dems couldn't do. They do it piecemeal and get applauded for it.
No thanks. No more RINOs. They'll kill us faster than the Dems.

I'm still considering what to do in such a case, but I think I would.

Absolutely. I think the War on Terror is the most important issue out there, today. A Democrat could ruin us on that issue. McCain has been really strong on this issue, and I give him credit for that. But I have to consider just how many issues I'm willing to give up. I know I will not vote for another Bush-like big spender.

Exactly. The president's problem is that he is too compassionate, more compassionate than realistic, and that he thinks the government is our solution. He forced all his socialist gibberish down our throats, because he wanted to help people. Same thing with the immigration issue, he doesn't want to deprive other peoples of the right to live out the American dream.

Yes. There is no way Clinton could have passed the drugs bill, or NCLB, or the Senate amnesty. I propose that we at least expect the following from our next presidential candidate: belief in limited government.

I think some people don't really believe we are at war, you can't believe it and even remotely consider letting the Democrats win. Not if you value your family and your life. But if you think it's only some kind of rather bothersome intellectual exercise that is claiming the lives of a few young people who might otherwise be killed in auto accidents or climbing mountains or other enterprises that tend to kill young people, then you might discount the seriousness of warfare and the disastrous consequences of losing.
Maybe it's a failure to really, truly face the fact that we are in a fight for our very existence. I guess if you don't believe that you can pick and choose less onerous situations, such as big spending, or government telephone conversation monitoring as something that will determine how you cast your vote.
To: Mia T
Frankly, I may not like Rudy's politics very much, but he is so much better than Hilary that it's ridiculous.
If I may go back a little bit, I'll vote for Rudy over McCain any day of the week. McCain is a freaking crook who helped four Democrats (John Glenn, Alan Cranston, Dennis DeConcini and Don Riegle) give tons of money to that crook Charles Keating to Destroy Lincoln Savings & Loan, and further, the Savings and Loan Industry in America.
You wonder why saving rates are a pile of crap? Thank Charles Keating, John McCain, John Glenn, Alan Cranston, Dennis DeConcini and Don Riegle for destroying the Savings and Loan Industry in America.

is the fact that we will still be physically and economically powerful long after our national character is gone, where will that lead to? A global oligarchy

A long read and frightening to boot. I knew Perot ran to kill Bush 41's chances but I've never read these details before.
I pray that we don't have another Clinton foisted on us with flim flam but that is the only way she can win.
Mia, you should do some research on the hundred consultants she has on the payroll. She is siphoning off all the money she can before other candidates can get geared up but more importantly she is hiring the people who would help another candidate as well. Pretty much under the radar of course.
