And we would be facing a very different future right now, I fear. Fighting terrorism in a Gore presidency would have been horrific. Yet, somehow I believe this alternate history would have seen the death of the Democratic Party.

You are conveniently forgetting the the overwhelmingly Republican voters of the Florida Panhandle, who got dejected and simply stayed home after the liberal media had called Florida for Algore, long before poling had closed in Florida, with precisely that aim in mind.
