U.N. Insult to Constitution a Good Reason to Halt U.S. Funding
Second Amendment Foundation Press Release ^ | June 19, 2006 | Staff

Posted on 06/19/2006 1:33:26 PM PDT by yoe

BELLEVUE, WA – In what can only be a carefully-timed, deliberate insult to the United States and its Constitution, the United Nations is hosting a conference on global gun control aimed directly at our Second Amendment, on dates that include our national holiday, July 4.

The U.N. Conference on Global Gun Control, scheduled June 24-July 7, poses a direct threat to our constitutionally-protected individual right to keep and bear arms, said Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF). Gottlieb will attend the conference, but he suggests that this may be an opportune time for Congress and the White House to reconsider this nation’s level of financial support for an international organization that now wants to write a treaty that specifically attacks a cornerstone of our federal constitution, and the lynchpin to our liberty.

“Had it not been for our tradition of private firearms ownership,” Gottlieb stated, “our citizens might still be subjects of the queen. Had it not been for America, all of Europe might be speaking German. Were America not the ‘great arsenal of democracy’ that President Franklin D. Roosevelt described in 1940, the world would be a far different place, and the sanctimonious bureaucrats at the U.N. might instead be working in labor camps.

“Not once, but twice in the past century, American citizens have risen to the challenge and quite literally saved the world,” Gottlieb recalled. “From our heartland have come heroes like Alvin York, Audie Murphy, Joe Foss and others who grew up in a land of freedom and knew what it took to defend that birthright.

“Yet, as we celebrate our 230th anniversary, global anti-gunners, under the guise of reviewing a U.N. program of action on small arms and light weapons, want to create a binding international agreement that could supersede our laws and constitution,” Gottlieb said. “We have done much for the U.N. and in return, the organization has hosted despots, tyrants and dictators whose record of human rights abuses, aggression and genocide speaks for itself. And now comes an attack on our constitution, on our national holiday.

“America has always answered the call to help our international friends and neighbors,” Gottlieb observed, “but when our very way of life is attacked, maybe it is time to find more worthy endeavors for our material and financial support.”

The Second Amendment Foundation (www.saf.org) is the nations oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 600,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control. SAF has previously funded successful firearms-related suits against the cities of Los Angeles; New Haven, CT; and San Francisco on behalf of American gun owners, a lawsuit against the cities suing gun makers and an amicus brief and fund for the Emerson case holding the Second Amendment as an individual right.

Good find, thanks.

The UN is useless militarily. Its only use is in caring for less fortunates (that is if they stop raping the children they're charged to help).

Move UN headquarters out of U.S. and station them closer to where all the troubles are--The Eastern Hemisphere. But we all know they'll never give up the perks.

I am quite certain that the reason that they hate us so much is that they are certain that if it had not been for the US, they'd be running the labor camps.....

The UN should be relocated next to a mass grave in Rwanda, so they can look at their failures each and every day.

Move the UN to Paris.

Let them deal with million in UNpaid traffic tickets and UNanswered summons.

Let them deal with the UNmitigated gaul that the UNgratiful 'diplomats' take out on thier host.

Better yet, move the UN to CUBA!!!!

None. Be glad Al or John aren't running this country right now. Yes, the UN has it's uses, especially in fighting to free people from Islamakazis, and President Bush uses it for that much, but he hates what the United Nations has become and is willing to fight the UN for our freedom. NEVER vote Democrat, not even in protest (this message is a general one for all those "special conscience" voters who crawl out of th ewoodwork every two years) also, don't vote McStain for ANY reason.

LOL!!! You don't listen to him much do you?
ALL he talks about is Reforming and strengthening the UN. He NEVER even remotely suggests that we get out or close it down!
willing to fight the UN for our freedom.
LMBORITF!!! That IS a good one!

Sounds like a good idea. Can never have too much 147gr FMJ 9mm onhand and I haven't cleaned out Wal-Marts stock in a month or two.

Maybe I'll splurge and pick up some more .357 HP's as well. I've been reloading most of my stuff and haven't bothered buying it retail.

To hell with the UN. Funny that they take a swipe at our Constitution, but don't have a thing to say about all of the dictators and thugs that run various other countries.

What part of SOVEREIGNTY doesn't Kofi and gang understand?

He does feel confident because of his VERY WILLING allies of the MSM, a lot of the SUPREMES and of course most of the Democrats who would willingly turn this great country into the Socialist States of America in a heartbeat.

We have exposed their abyss of corruption. .

. . .the U.N. in turn; rather than being humbled. . .contrite. . .committed to reform; instead, with totalitarian hubris/arrogance instead. . .flex their muscle and spit in the eye of every American; their arrogance reinforced by the rest of the 'American-dependent Leftist world elite' and non-elite

They dare us/challenge us to respond. .

I wish we would get the H++ out of this freedom-threatening monster organization. . .kick them out of New York and with them; all the member/residents/guests who live here; enjoying our Freedom..

Being this crapola fest is scheduled for our Celebration of Independence, it would be a fitting, proper, jubilant time for the USA to bid farewell to the UN!

If W wants a legacy that will follow him for centuries, prevent any future president from allowing these murdering, rapist elite scum from furthering their clutch hold on financially strapped third worlders and finally end the threat to our sovereignty once and for all, July 4th, 2006 would be a perfect day to send them all packing!!

In fact, give them the building too! Just go!

That would be a July 4th gift that would make this old Marine beam with pride! :-)

This reminds me of the scene on Star Wars 1 where Obi Wan and Luke Skywalker was on the hill overlooking Mos Eisley Spaceport.

Obi Wan turned and said to Luke:
Be careful there, you'll never seen a greater pile of treachery and scum anywhere in this universe!!

I think it is very applicable in describing the UN as it is today!!
