How U.S. Citizens Mysteriously March For Kremlin Causes
Wall Street Journal ^ | June 24, 2006 | Alan Cullison and James Bandler

The rally last December was one of nearly a dozen paid-for protests organized by Russian émigrés in the U.S. in the past two years. They spent $150,000 to $200,000 in some months, accounting records indicate, to rally thousands of demonstrators near spots such as United Nations headquarters and the World Trade Center site. State-controlled Russian television, whose content is closely guided by Kremlin handlers, covered some of the events, often as the only news organ present, showing video of them on the evening news back home.

Boris Barshevsky at a pay-for-protest rally in Queens, N.Y., last year. Organizers said the effort was funded by private individuals they declined to name. Some former insiders of the campaign told a different story: that both its instructions and its funding came from Moscow. Specifically, they said it came from the Russian founder of a youth group that staunchly supports the Kremlin and has gotten lavish support from the Kremlin in return. This account was supported by emails and other documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

A member of the Russian youth group disputed the account, and it remains impossible to say who was behind the campaign. It coincided with efforts by Russian officials to mold opinion both at home and abroad on issues such as Chechnya, where a breakaway movement has been put down violently by the Putin government. The Kremlin argues that Chechen separatists, responsible for a bloody siege at an elementary school in southern Russia in 2004, are no different from al Qaeda terrorists. Some of the rallies demanded that Washington extradite alleged Chechen terrorists living in America.

The rent-a-mob was invented by Democrats. They use it very effectively, particulary when they use our money on such things as busing in kids to a rally. They are in our face, and we have to pay for it.

Because of the stupid United Nations, we have to get Russia's permission to do anything about Iran's crackpot regime that is developing nukes and has openly talked about wiping BOTH Israel and the United States off the map.

We should shut the UN down and tell Russia to pack sand.

When I attended a Republican Bush rally before the last election, I was surrounded by Russians-students, teachers and their body guards/security . Reagan was a hero to them; therefore, resulting in this Republican "connection" of ideas/ideals.

Okay. If we've got them and can find them, no thanks to the NYSLimes, they can have them back. This needs rallies?

If these are naturalized citizens, naturalization oath includes a renunciation of all allegiances to the outside powers. This ought to be sufficient grounds for stripping the citizenship and deportations.

If the rallies are demanding that we hand over Chechnyan terrorists...I do not see anything negative in that.

We should be handing them over!

Yeah...right.

Lots of inconsistencies and hidden stories in this excerpted article...the WSJ has been acting strangely lately...for example publishing the govt's access to international banking records...that was just plain hideous.

For all I care we can ship them the Gitmo creeps too. Something tells me the NY Times won't have a problem with Putin doing as he pleases with them. I am sure I would approve of his internment procedures.

Plenty of commie-stooges-for-hire in NYC and the left-coast. Not surprising in the least.

THE NY Slimes is no friend of Putin. As for the Chechnyan terrorists they are Russia's problem and we should be cooperating with Russia on this and other matters.

The GITMOS can stay right where they are until we are finished with them...and the liberal establishment can boo hoo all they want.

"The Kremlin argues that Chechen separatists, responsible for a bloody siege at an elementary school in southern Russia in 2004, are no different from al Qaeda terrorists. Some of the rallies demanded that Washington extradite alleged Chechen terrorists living in America."

This is one of the few positions on which the Putin regime is actually reasonable. The Chechen terrorists are Islamist fanatics with an ideology extremely similar to Al Qaeda's. These terrorists have murdered innocent civilians and imposed their religious views on others. The Putin regime may be unpleasant and oppressive -- aspects we should not ignore -- but it is doing everyone a service by confronting even worse forces, for there is nothing worse than militant Islamism today.

Send the islamoradicals to the People's Republic of China. They won't get any love loss there.

I'm sure Peter King will be along at any moment to call for their prosecution, just like with the NYT. /s
