The New York Times
September 24, 2001 Monday Late Edition - Final SECTION: Section A; Column 1; Editorial Desk; Pg. 30 LENGTH: 545 words HEADLINE: Finances of Terror
Organizing the hijacking of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon took significant sums of money. [snip] Washington and its allies must also disable the financial networks used by terrorists.
[snip]
Much more is needed, including stricter regulations, the recruitment of specialized investigators and greater cooperation with foreign banking authorities. There must also must be closer coordination among America's law enforcement, national security and financial regulatory agencies.
[snip]
Though some smaller financial transactions are likely to slip through undetected even after new rules are in place, much of the financing needed for major attacks could dry up.
[snip]
If America is going to wage a new kind of war against terrorism, it must act on all fronts, including the financial one.

You set a tough standard. I'll probably never post one now!
dude,
make sure this gets to drudge, rush, levin, fox news, etc.
What's the big deal? This is nothing!
If you want to talk about the real dangers to national security, it's Bush's minions like Cheney and Rove who leak the name of CIA operatives like Plame. Now that did serious damage to our intelligence gathering efforts.
I can see Drudge running it as a headline, and I'm sure Rush and Fox would love to get it. With all the nitpicking crap liberals never hesitate to use, it would be sweet justice to use the NYT's own words. They can't argue against that.
That's the full editorial. The formatting is about as well as I would do if I had to put html in.
I hope there was a sarcasm tag missing somewhere from your post.

I expect that to be the standard liberal reply if this editorial (hopefully) makes it to the media.
Beat it troll...
Y'oughtta forward this to Brit's show: Special@foxnews.com
Thank you for posting this!
LOL! If it wouldn't get Jim in trouble I'd agree. What say you Jim?
Great find.
Washington should revive international efforts begun during the Clinton administration to pressure countries with dangerously loose banking regulations to adopt and enforce stricter rules......
The Bush administration initially opposed such measures. But after the events of Sept. 11, it appears ready to embrace them.
Great find!
Hypocrisy BUMP and ping.
Did you forget the sarcasm tag?
"If America is going to wage a new kind of war against terrorism, it must act on all fronts." All fronts covers a lot. Unless the NYT didn't really mean "all" fronts.
I hope we hear about this article on Fox tomorrow. It needs to get out.
