Colo. Clinics to Give Away Contraceptives

DENVER (AP) - Planned Parenthood said they it will distribute free "morning after" contraceptives at state clinics Friday to protest Gov. Bill Owens' veto of a bill that would have let pharmacists prescribe the pill.

Owens rejected the measure in April, saying that spreading prescription power beyond doctors and specialized nurses "strays radically from the accepted norms of medicine."

"Every woman should have it in their medicine cabinets, in case of birth control failure, or worse, sexual assault," Vicki Cowart, president of Planned Parenthood of the Rockies, said in a statement.

The contraceptive, called Plan B, uses a high dose of the hormones found in birth control pills. It is designed to prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in a woman's uterus if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, and not have any effect once the egg is embedded in the uterus wall. It is not the abortion drug RU-486.

The governor has stressed that Plan B is already available through doctors and Planned Parenthood, said Dan Hopkins, a spokesman for Owens. But supporters of the measure have said that it would have made the drug available 24 hours a day at many pharmacies.

Opponents say the drug might prevent a fertilized egg from being implanted in a woman's uterus, which they believe would be the equivalent of having an abortion.

Eight states - Alaska, California, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico and Washington - have laws permitting women to obtain Plan B over-the-counter.

That's the Planned Parenthood we know and loathe!

Absolutely no thought for the health implications for anyone but their bottom line!

We are supposed to worry about DDT, harmless to us, but give away a human pesticide. That is Colorado.

Isn't Denver a self-proclaimed safe haven for illegals?

Maybe we can cordon off several states and let the loonies live there with themselves.

They better give exams first, follow the rules and file meticulous paperwork. Otherwise they could lose their licenses to operate. What a shame that would be...

Actually, if you cordon off Denver and Boulder proper, the rest of the state is firmly red. But these 2 cities are giving us a black eye.

We can thank Warren Buffet and his friends at the Bill Gates Foundation for supporting the baby killers.

Bill the 3rd and Bill the 2nd are controlling and directing the tax free money.

Buffet has been avoiding income taxes for decades and now Buffet will be avoiding death taxes.

Thus they will have more money for their agenda.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't a pharmacists license in most if not all states grant the power to prescribe already? I know it isn't often exercised but I believe that to be true as they can rewrite/alter prescriptions written by a MD to substitute comparable drugs...

Lefties have no problem with nasty greedy drug companies, as long as they produce substances which kill the unborn......

I think the prescription change they were talking about was the ability to simply prescribe this pill in an almost OTC fashion. Women would not have needed a doctor's prescription.

only if given permission. The prescription can be written as DAW (dispense as written) or as substitutions permitted.

If permission is given to substitute, it can only be for a generic or different brand of the same med.

Subject: Planned Parenthood after report

SHAKING THEIR FISTS AT GOVERNOR OWENS

True to their absolutely wicked agenda of child killing
at all cost, Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood had their
“KILL PILL THRILL DAY” Plan B give-away all
over Colorado June 30, 2006.

When Denver’s 7 News contacted Colorado Right to Life
for a comment, V.P. Leslie Hanks, drove to Planned Parenthood’s
press conference with her Center for Bio-Ethical Reform poster
illustrating what “choice” looks like.

Fortuitously, channels 2, 4, Fox News and UniVision were also
willing to hear a differing perspective from the reprehensible
marketing ploy the abortion industry is using, to grab the attention
of sexually active young teens.

Hanks was able to make several points that wouldn’t have otherwise
been made public at the propaganda press event. Designed to embarrass
Governor Bill Owens for his veto of Representative Betty Boyd’s
so called “emergency contraception” measure last session, the pro-aborts
fought back by passing out the kill pill like candy.

Foremost, she noted that, like a drug pusher trying to hook future junkies,
PP pays only $4.25 for the pill but plans to charge $30 for subsequent
pill requests, according to research done by American Life League.

Channel 7 News reported that Plan B was given away all day today to 2,000 girls and women in Colorado.

The point was also made that this pill may make young girls ever more
vulnerable to adult male exploitation.

Hanks also explained to the press that Life Dynamics has caught Colorado Planned Parenthood clinics telling very young girls that they don’t need to admit the age of the adult males who have impregnated them. Accordingly, statutory rapists appear to have a free pass in Colorado.

When Hanks and several others met with Colorado AG, John Suthers’ office
last fall to play the tape of the Life Dynamics sting, they were told that nothing
could be done.

“Finally, no one can predict the long term effects of how these large amounts of hormones will impact the future reproductive health of these young girls, who will have
ever more reasons to avoid chastity, as boy friends tell them Plan B will solve
their problems,” said CRL V.P. Leslie Hanks.
