BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Hungarian prostitutes will have to get used to doing more paperwork after a court ruled they must have a tax number to pursue their trade.
A court in the southern town Pecs rejected a prostitute's appeal against a 50,000 forint ($225) fine by the tax authority and said she should have had a tax number, judge Roza Meszar told the national news agency MTI.
The claimant, who was unnamed, argued a treaty signed by Hungary banned the registration of prostitutes, but the court ruled they still needed to pay taxes, must have a tax number and an entrepreneur's license.
Value Added Tax?
Consumption tax.
Where are they going to put the bar code?
So they are kidnapped, sold into sexual slavery, and then will be held accountable for being in "violation"?
What a crooked system.
That was the first question to cross my mind...
You're making assumptions based on facts not in evidence. Not all prostitutes are kidnapped and sold into sexual slavery.
Hello sweetie. I'm doing you for charity. May I have your tax id number? Are you and LLC or an S corporation?
What's next....procedure codes?
Many in Europe are. There are an estimated 25,000 women kept in sexual slavery in the US.
They owe money to their pimps (including steep fines). They are illegally smuggled in and cannot go to the authorities. They are told they put their families at risk if they try to escape.
Those aren't likely to be the ones who are going to be taxed, now are they? Prostitution is legal throughout much of central Europe and the purveyors are, in most cases, licensed and undergo periodic health checks. Not likely to happen if the girl is a slave.
"It's been a business doing pleasure with you, sir."
Asset depreciation schedules?
"Hungarian prostitutes will have to get used to doing more paperwork after a court ruled they must have a tax number to pursue their trade."
So, who REALLY enjoys(double entente unintended)the worlds "oldest profession"; Tax collector, or prostitute?
The slaves are permitted to call their families. They aren't shackled. But they aren't free to leave or free to talk.
And of course the ever popular undercover investigations where officers use taxpayer dollars to see if the women are violating laws.
Whether it is checking strip joints for firecode violations during the shows or seeing if they can buy sexual favors (and get off), it's good to work in "regulation".
You want me to slide my credit card where?
The real challenge, of course, is coming up with an attractive trademark for that LLC - or at least one that be applied as a "small-of-the-back" tattoo. :-) Now that I think about it... I have seen a girl with a UPC barcode tattoo there. I wonder what flash on the screen of a barcode scanner? Hmmm... :-)
It should make for interesting litigation, when some guy sues an LLC for giving him genital herpes.
Now I can finally get a receipt and take it off my taxes.
