Muslim seeking seat at US Congress is questioned about faith
A Minnesota state representative and criminal defense lawyer could soon become the first Muslim member of Congress if he overcomes Jewish criticisms.
Keith Ellison, the state-party Democratic endorsed candidate in the liberal-leaning 5th Congressional District has been dogged by questions about his faith as he aims to become the first Muslim member of Congress.
He was particularly criticised by Jewish leaders who are worries about the candidate?s ties to the Nation of Islam.
"For Jews, there's no ambiguity when it comes to the Nation of Islam," said Stephen Silberfarb, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas. "It's a group that hates the Jewish people."
As a student, Ellison wrote several columns in the student newspaper. One defended Black Muslim group's leader, Louis Farrakhan against charges of anti-Semitism; a second suggested the creation of a state for black residents. In 1995, Ellison helped organise a delegation to Farrakhan's Million Man March in Washington.
Whilst his columns are now receiving close attention, Ellison claims he was never an enrolled member of the Nation of Islam. He got involved to help improve the lives of black men, he said, and did not fully grasp concerns about Farrakhan's anti-Semitism until after the 1995 march.
"There are legitimate concerns in the Jewish community. That's why I'm happy to answer them," Ellison said. But, he added, "I do also think there are people out there who are fear-mongering, who are trying to scare the Jewish community and manipulate this issue."
Ellison who adheres to the religion's more moderate Sunni branch says, "Islam is as diverse as any Christianity is."
It's not clear how that will play with Minneapolis voters who are 65 percent white and 18 percent black. Muslims account for 20,000 of the 2.5 million residents in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
Questioned?
I'd hope so.
A Sunni with ties to Louis Farrakhan.
No, no, a thousand times no. Remember it is a tenet of that "faith" to permit lies and falsehoods to accomplish the goals of islam.
Do not trust even one of them.
Have no doubt, the loons up here in Minneapolis will
elect this traitor.
Wahabis are Sunni.
It is a "deception" to say that Sunni's are moderate.
That is code for: "Beware of Jews who have half an ounce of sense."
Anyone whose ever written one word in defense of Louis Farrakhan does not belong in the US Congress.
I read that and almost laughed out loud.
(Then I heard Zarqawi and bin Laden gagging in the netherworld. It was too much even for those 2 Sunnis.)
" do you sir support the use of backpack bombs to get your way?" or "are you a terrorist like the rest?"...all good questions to ask.
I wondered about that.
Is Obama a Muslim?
It just goes to show again that if you ram 2 jets into skyscrapers, killing 3000 innocent people, there is a sector of our society which will say "Give them what they want."
I did a Google on him - he's now 42 years old. He was 31 in 1995, and Farrakhan had already been around for quite a while spouting anti-Semitic hate. Keith should have been mature and astute enough to figure it out. Methinks Keith is a liar and an opportunist.
"Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth." - Omar Ahmad, Co-founder of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, aka CAIR. President and CEO of Silicon Expert Technologies. A Palestinian who grew up in a refugee camp in Jordan.
Even if they don't vote him in, and just elect a democrat - same difference!
No. He's Christian.
But since he's a socialist/marxist/dhimmicrat, it probably doesn't count.
Yes, it suddenly dawned on me, when a mere child of 31, that Adolf Hitler didn't like Jews too much.
