Black preachers plan protest against mosque opening in NW Pompano By Jean-Paul Renaud South Florida Sun-Sentinel

July 11, 2006

POMPANO BEACH -- Preachers from some of the northwest area's most influential churches plan to bring their flocks and sermons to City Hall tonight to demand that leaders keep a mosque from opening in their neighborhood.

... "Let us sit down under your leadership and work towards enhancing the experience of all peoples, so that our community can make further progress, fostering peace, harmony and friendship," wrote Altaf Ali, the organization's executive director.

"He said, `Let us come together and reason,'" Dozier, standing behind a pulpit, recounted on a recent Sunday to his congregation. "Now what do I look like? Do you think I would sit down and talk to them and compromise?"

So in Dozier's office last week, pastors planned their protest, surrounded by photos of Dozier posing with President Bush, Gov. Jeb Bush, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"Can we get a podium?" Dozier asked his counterparts.

"Can we get a bullhorn?" the Rev. Alonzo Neal, of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, said.

Their agenda was clear: Make their congregations aware that they will protest at the City Commission meeting tonight, even though the issue is legally settled.

"We want to tell our people from the pulpit," Dozier said, sitting in a large brown leather chair behind a well-kept desk. "I've been talking on it every Sunday."

"Me too," Neal said.

"History will judge us badly if these people came to our area and converted a lot of poor black people into that cult," Dozier continued.

Neal jumped in: "The only thing we as men of God can do is stand and be counted."

This is taking place in Pompano Beach, Fla...just north of Ft Laud and the home of the late actress, Esther Rolle (Good Times"). This black American community was a farming community pre 1950s. These people have taken their share of crap over the years and it was always the church which gave them community, political power and hope.

I don't like Islam anymore than anyone else who is well-informed, but Muslims have the same right to worship as any other religions faith.

I think this gets the "Worst-written article of the week" award. Seriously, it makes no sense at all; it reads like some sort of inside joke where you have to know the backstory already.

It should be fun to watch the liberals decide who to support in this one. It should throw them into a real tizzy.

Never mind; it makes sense at the linked source. I couldn't follow your excerpted version; I didn't realize you had chopped it up.

You have a very strong point, but I would counter that until I see American Muslims consistently and sincerely condemning all acts of terrorism, barbarity and treason in the name of their religious faith, then I will retain my suspicion that mosques are nothing more than military outposts committing to recruiting fanatic religious soldiers and conquering us all into death or dhimmitude.

That's if they are like "any other religious faith".

I don't believe it is a true religion.

I think it is a murdering, lying, deceiving cult.

And the Koran gives them permission to kill and their marching orders to do so.

If that is the case (which is often is), the mosques can be wiretapped.

Why build a large mosque in an historic black neighborhood unless to "pick off low hanging fruit". With their money they can establish programs enticing many into their faith. They're orchestrating on several fronts.

That means we want your peckers in our pockets.(With apologies to LBJ)

It is not a religious faith, it is a cult.

Yep, they don't know who to portray as the bad ones especially since there are no white males to kick around. On one side, there are blacks but they are Christians. On the other side, there are American Muslims (now there's a victim if there ever was one) but they are up against blacks. Oh my oh my.

"...but Muslims have the same right to worship as any other religions faith."

No they don't.

We should purge this scourge from the face of the Earth.

Do I have your attention yet?

OK, well I don't really think that, but that is what they would do to the rest of us if they had the keys to the Kingdom!

You do realize that don't you?

"to worship"

No offense, but I find if I examine what they worship, I see no good value in it at all.

Loving God is all about trust.
How can you trust a God that hopes you die, and take as many people as possible with you?

If they were simply worshiping, I would have no problem at all. I think they're plotting.

If it was in my area, I'd probably be protesting, too.

That certainly got my attention.

And yes, most Muslims are devoid of good will towards non-Muslims, and Muslims of other sects, and Muslims of their own sect who are female, and male Muslims of their own sect who are younger than they are, and male Muslims of their own sect their own age who are of a lower economic class then they are and...well, you get the message.

But still, prohibiting them from building a mosque won't accomplish anything useful.

Muslims worshiping would be one thing but many mosques around the country are just jihad stations. They hide terrorists and try and convert the poorest of the poor for brainwashing purposes.
Freedom of religion is one thing, but freedom to spread terrorism is yet another.
