Showing their fund-raising prowess, the Democrats Eliot Spitzer and Hillary Rodham Clinton have collected millions of dollars in recent months, many times more than their Republican opponents running for governor and United States senator.
Mrs. Clinton, who is seeking her second term in the Senate, has about $22 million cash on hand, 100 times the amount for either of her Republican rivals, John Spencer, a former mayor of Yonkers, and Kathleen Troia McFarland, a Reagan-era Pentagon official, according to numbers provided by their campaigns yesterday.
Mr. Spitzer, the attorney general, who began raising money for his campaign for governor nearly two years ago, is continuing to outpace his opponents. When he files his report on Monday, he is expected to report having collected more than $9 million since January, according to his campaign aides.
John Faso, the Republican candidate for governor, has brought in about $1.5 million in the past six months, while Thomas R. Suozzi, the Nassau county executive, who is running against Mr. Spitzer in the Democratic primary this fall, has raised about $4 million since January.
The candidates for United States Senate are required to file their reports with the Federal Elections Commission today...

True, but a Presidential election is far less reliant on paid media due to its very high profile.
The Gubenatorial and Senate races, by contrast, aren't drawing a great deal of attention.
Unfortunately, that statement could apply equally to either dollars or votes.
