Much to the dismay some members of the taxpayer-supported Public Broadcasting System (PBS) bigwigs and Hollywood's far left entertainment community, President Bush has nominated a staunch conservative to serve on the PBS board just a year after another conservative was forced to resign as board chairman because he was accused of injecting partisanship into the agency.
Warren Bell, an ABC sitcom producer who the Los Angeles Times reports describes himself as "thoroughly conservative in ways that strike horror into the hearts of my Hollywood colleagues," also contributes to the online edition of the conservative National Review magazine.
Getting necessary approval for his nomination from Capitol Hill could be rough going, the Times speculates, noting that some of his past comments "have raised eyebrows among some Democrats who serve on the Senate Commerce Committee, which must approve his nomination."
While admitting that he was surprised by his nomination, he told the Times he had no intention of allowing his personal political beliefs influence his role on the board, asking skeptics to withhold judgment until they have a chance to hear him out about his plans for the post.
Last year, then-board Chairman Kenneth Y. Tomlinson, who critics alleged had, in the Times words, "worked aggressively to right what he saw as a liberal slant at PBS and NPR," was forced out of the post.
Bell is currently the executive producer of ABC's sitcom "According to Jim."
Good. But I bet the programming really doesn't change.
Hahahahahahahahaahhahahaha. Da Burnin' Bush strikes again in the heart of H'weird. The prez is the greatest!
It's about as pointless as Bolton is at the U.N.
Be a good tolerance lesson for them! HA HA HA
Yeah, my dream was that Bolton's SOLE act as UN ambassador would be to announce that the US was quitting and that they were no longer welcome in our country.
liberals definition of fair and balanced means 90% liberals view, 10% conservative
consertative definition of fair and balanced means 50-50
Yep, that U.S. funded, tax-usurping building would make a nice hotel/casino.
Sell it to the highest bidder, tear down the entire UN complex and build office buildings and condos.
It doesn't get much better than that. I like him.
Why didn't you apply for the job? :-)
Doh. Why didn't I think of that. The Dems on the commerce committee would let me sail right through. My hearing would surely be fun. It might end up in a gunfight.
Yea, shut down PBS, Dept. of Education and a host of other things.
Yep, it's just symbolism over farts in a whirlwind.
Except for PBS liberals, their definition is 100% liberal and 0% conservative. If Bell is confirmed he will be the only conservative on the PBS board, and for the far left wingers at PBS that's one too many.
All I ever watch on PBS is "This Old House" on Saturday afternoon, and occasionally "Travels in Europe" if it's about Italy or almost anywhere in the Mediterranean region.
As for NPR, fogettabouttit, I won't listen to that anti-American garbage period, end of story.
can't live without his snout in the public trough i guess.
I wish he would just sell it to FreeRepublic. We would fix it for them.
Calling Art Bell.
Calling Art Bell.
This is my dream job. I'd schedule 20hrs a day of nascar. And make Bill Moyers do commentary. Austin City Limits would be moved to Bakersfield. Nature would follow hunters on safari. I'd have all the pledge week telephone operators call all the old contributors at 4am. And everyone on Texas Ranch House would be given a gun.
Within a week I'd have Ted Kennedy scrambling to defund the network
