ATLANTA - Former Christian Coalition leader Ralph Reed, unable to overcome his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, conceded defeat Tuesday in Georgia's Republican race for lieutenant governor. It was a stunning turnaround for Reed, who was making his first bid for elective office after working for years as a behind-the-scenes campaign strategist and leading the Christian Coalition and the state Republican Party

The lieutenant governor race is the big one here, and it's probably for the best that Ralph Reed has gone down to defeat. The Atlanta paper successfully portrayed him as an Elmer Gantry figure because he really IS an Elmer Gantry figure. Meanwhile, the Dems are nominating Jim Martin for LG. Martin is the senior member of a family that lives off liberal guilt and public funds. Jim is also one of the new "Christian" Dems (he's an elder in the notorious PCUSA) who drip with "compassion" while promoting causes like gay marriage and partial-birth abortion. Against Reed, he might even have won.

There is a runoff for the Lt. Gov on the Democrats' side.

Many of us are surprised at his decline, at one time we thought the sky was the limit for him.
Guess he wasn't who we thought he was.

Ralph Reed should move to California and set up shop. California is the big enchilada in electoral politics and his efforts would make it interesting. Is Tom McClintock listening?

Some people are better at working behind the scenes as political operatives than they are as the front-man.
Reed has always had a bit of a "underhanded/sleaze factor" vibe to him. Not real charismatic or likeable as a pol, but a good guy to have on your team getting down and dirty to slay your political enemies.
That and he stole Indian money...

I live in Georgia. Reed's own mailer portrayed him with such a smirky grin that I first thought it was from his opponent's campaign. I voted against Reed today. Happy to do it.

Looks like God cut off His right hand.......man.
I'm a Christian, I love what God has done for me. But Reed is to me what Jesse Jackson is to blacks. An anchor.......tied around my ankles..........in 20 foot water.
Like some blacks say about Jesse.....Ralph doesn't speak for me.
