Man On Moon: We Saw a UFO (Buzz Aldrin)
UK Daily Record ^ | 24 July 2006 | Mike Swain

Posted on 07/25/2006 11:13:09 AM PDT by wagglebee

THE first men to walk on the Moon reported seeing a UFO, a new TV documentary reveals.

Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the Moon's surface after Neil Armstrong, says space agency bosses covered up their sighting.

And the Apollo 11 astronauts were also careful not to talk about it openly.

He said: "There was something out there, close enough to be observed, and what could it be?

"Now, obviously the three of us weren't going to blurt out, 'Hey, Houston, we've got something moving alongside of us and we don't know what it is, you know?

"Can you tell us what it is?'

"We weren't about to do that, because we knew that that those transmissions would be heard by all sorts of people and somebody might have demanded we turn back because of aliens or whatever the reason is."

The documentary, tonight on Five, also reveals that the astronauts had to repair the lunar module with a ballpoint pen after the historic landing in July 1969.

In the cramped conditions, someone's bulky spacesuit had snapped off a circuit breaker essential for starting up the engine.

To this day, Aldrin treasures the everyday object that saved their lives.

He said: "I used a pen, one of several that we had on board that didn't have metal on the end, and we used that to push the circuit breaker in."

The programme also draws on classified documents made public for the first time.

Well, pretty much like being in any large city at night. Here in Houston I usually see about 5 stars. Generally some air traffic, but not like LA, that's for sure.

And of course, there'd be no weird chance of a halo or reflection from a curved faceplate.

Nope. It must have been a Frisbee thrown around by the crew at the sound stage at Area 51 where they faked the landing.

Get as nit pickey as you want.
To be really accurate it was a 64 1/2 and it was a 202.
It was not a 289 and there were a lot of 65's with 202's.
Thanks for trying, but it was my car.

An independent source to verify this? Like someone else that was on the moon at the time, maybe a couple of craters over?

Fair enough. I must admit that it is harder than I thought to get stars in a photo whether you're doing it on Earth or on the moon or in space.

"We saw a light and didn't know what it was."

And then Houston reminded the Apollo crew to shut off their turn signal.

Yes, I was going to mention the Opie & Hanks jab at Buzz. Their "holy roller" treatment seemed a bit harsh. I'm glad to hear your first-person observation to offset that bit of bias.

I would assume an Occam's Razor treatment of an UFO sighting to be one of the myriad objects that fall (can something fall in zero G? what would the verb be?), eject, or are otherwise shed in the process of spaceflight as it occurred in the 60's and 70's. We do need to consider that these guys are promoting their film so of course the teasers will exxagerate. But unless Aldrin contends that the object maneuvered, it is hard to assume it was an alien spacecraft as the colloquial usage of UFO implies.

I had to use it to jam in the place where the bolt that held the linkage to the top of the transmission used to be.
The bolt fell out and was gone, and the pen was just the right size to bottom out in the hole and jam into place on the side of the hump that ran down the middle of the car.
Perfect fit!

Aldrins's statement is far from definative. OTOH, even if it was, I don't see any justification for the attempts to discredit the guy that are appearing here.

Nah, if you take a picture on the moon you'll see stars, just like here.

Not if most of your 'picture' is brightly lit objects. The F stop will be so small the little lights (stars) will nOT expose the film.

Have you seen Windom appear in "The New Voyages" fan-made episodes playing the same character...at seventy? Incredible sets and props, passible acting, a good time.
