Schumer and Clinton Pressed To Reappoint Bolton [NY's Dem senators now supporting GW's Bolton?]
The NY Sun ^ | July 26, 2006 | RUSSELL BERMAN

Posted on 07/26/2006 10:57:44 AM PDT by summer

As the Senate prepares to consider anew the nomination of John Bolton as United Nations ambassador, Senators Schumer and Clinton are facing increasing pressure from pro-Israel groups to renounce another Democratic filibuster in light of the escalating war in the Middle East.

The Foreign Relations Committee is set to hold a hearing on the nomination tomorrow, and several Democrats on the panel have voiced their unswerving opposition to Mr. Bolton's nomination.

From New York's senators, however, there has been nothing but silence.
Mr. Schumer and Mrs. Clinton voted to block Mr. Bolton's confirmation a year ago, but they have not declared their positions this time around.

Aides to both senators did not respond to repeated inquiries about the Bolton nomination over the last three days.

One Jewish leader may have an idea why. The president of the Zionist Organization of America, Morton Klein, said yesterday that "important friends" of Mr. Schumer and Mrs. Clinton have confided to him that the senators are "seriously reconsidering" their position on Mr. Bolton. Mr. Klein, in a telephone interview, would not disclose the names of the friends, saying they had not given him permission to do so....

Also from the article:

A shift by the [NY] senators would likely dash any hopes of another Democratic filibuster of Mr. Bolton and would point to a sizable political ramification of the crisis in the Middle East.

Very interesting. So, according to the NY senators who previously voted against Bolton -- but this time appear to support him -- GW was not so crazy to appoint Bolton, now that there's more violence in the Middle East. OK, got it.

if they change their vote, implicitly the beast and schmuckie are admitting that they were mistaken about mr. bolton. of course the slimes will come up with some b.s. story on the front page justifying their actions, which will just diminish the slimes standing even further with the american public, but will garnish major credos from the french.

Here is what I posted at red meat in regard to the Democrats and Israel.
The Iraqi PM just delivered a speech before a joint session of Congress. The big news was that Senators Boxer and Schumer boycotted the speech because of his previous anti-Israel remarks. While I certainly have disdain for the Iraqi PM's remarks, I must say that this is the biggest chutzpah I have ever witnessed in my life. These very liberal vermin that created this whole perilous situation for Israel through the Oslo Holocaust are now concerned about Israel? These very scum that embraced Arafat and seek to appease all of Israel's enemies are now concerned about the remarks of a weak Arab leader that is just saying what he need to say to remain in power?? These same pieces of human debris that spoke befor the most prominent anti Semitic, anti Israel, liberal blog convention (Daily Kos) are now concerned about Jews? The unbelievably profound irony is that they speak before anti war crowds that chant "no war for Israel". Also, keep in mind that these are the same sewer rats that have a high regard for the UN which seeks the destruction of Israel! They even mounted an unprecedented filibuster of John Bolton because of his support for Israel, and they are now defenders of Israel??!! If this speech was good enough for Senators Santorum and Brownback who support Israel's existence in it's entirety, including Gaza, Judea, and Samaria, then its good enough for me. I guess the Democrats hate Bush so much that they will even give up their hate for Israel in order to make him look bad! Maybe they should walk out every time fellow Democrat Senator Chris Dodd speaks due to his anti Israel positions.

They better NOT blame Bolton...but, if they are "forced" to vote for him...I wouldn't put it past Hillary and Schumer to float that charge.

I don't know YET...

Shoot, remember when Kerry managed to miss an important vote during his campaigning?? In fact if he HAD voted, the vote would have gone the Dem's way..IIRC.

Don't be surprised to NOT see Hillary around for that vote.

I'm a well known Bush-Bot, but those idiotic Democrats were out maneuvered by events, not by Bush.

Actually Voinovich had reversed himself many weeks ago, before the current crisis even began.

Bolton was and is an excellent nomination, and the 'Rats were foolish to oppose him (as was Georgie "Crybaby" Voinovich).

Hillary vos Savant is in an especially difficult position. If she joins a filibuster, that will make her look like a weak supporter of Israel. If she doesn't, then that will be just another point to enrage the moveon.org mob.

Full credit to the President for turning his political enemies against each other. Lesson for the 'Rats: Play partisan games on national security at your own risk.

Surely it must be one of the few times Chuckie is not doing a sprint for the nearest TV camera. I suspect they will vote against but I also suspect they will be VERY quite about it and annouce nothing until the vote take place.
