Dennis Prager and Michael Medved comment on Mel Gibson
listen live ^ | July 31, 2006

Posted on 07/31/2006 11:30:41 AM PDT by EveningStar

I'm listening to Dennis Prager. Has anyone else been listening?

Earlier, he had Michael Medved on as a guest. They began by discussing the shootings in Seattle, where Medved lives. Then they shifted to Mel Gibson's anti-Semitic statements. Medved left, but Prager is continuing to discuss the issue.

Their comments have been nuanced and devoid of hysteria.

I imagine that Micheal will discuss this on his show today.

Also, Dennis said he would appear on Larry King's show to discuss a number of issues.

I'm unaware of specific anti-semetic attitudes of Mel Gibson. It can't be that he produced and directed "The Passion," because both, I think, supported that movie. What specifically are they concerned about regarding Gibson?

He pointed out that although Gibson could very well be anti-Semitic, his movie was clearly not. You can separate art from the artist.

He also said that what a man says when he's drunk is not as important as what he does in his life.

He also held out hope for redemption for Gibson.

Considering Michael Meved used most of a chapter in his most recent book defending Mel Gibson, it should be interesting to see what he says today on his show.

They did not trash Gibson, although I think they were disturbed by his statements.

Dennis is extremely fair minded and thoughtful.

Where you been? Under a rock? Mel was busted for DUI over the weekend. When he was arrested he went into an anti-jewish tirade laced with profanity and accusing the Jews of being responsible for all wars. In a nut shell.

Well if Mel was intoxicated he probably is guilty of saying stupid things while drunk.

I don't take seriously about what someone says under the influence anymore than the guy with the lampshade on his head.

I believe contrary. Drunk people tend to say what is on their minds. I do, which is why I don't like to drink around co-workers! :-)

Dennis and Michael compared what Gibson did to what Nixon did. Nixon would get drunk and make anti-Semitic statements about Jews. But he was always there for Israel.

According to Prager, Christians and Jews who saw The Passion of the Christ were watching two different movies. While Christians saw the movie as portraying Jesus Christ dying for their sins, as foretold in scripture, Jewish viewers saw it as portraying the killing of Jesus by Jews.

Prager also cautioned listeners that a work of art does not necessarily represent the views of the artist, noting that while Richard Wagner was a notorious Judeophobe, his operas are totally devoid of Judeophobia.

Shouldn't we all be disturbed by his statements? Don't forget that when it was reported that Broom Hillary had used anti-semitic language when she was sober, most of us here at FR correctly concluded that she was and is an anti-semite. Gibson's statements were pretty vile. In my experience, people tend to say what they really think while intoxicated. Apparently, Gibson blew a .12 and so while he was legally intoxicated, he certainly wasn't blitzed. He was drunk enough to tell us how he really feels, but not so drunk to claim he didn't know what he was saying.

Dennis also laid into the ADL for being overjoyed about this because they feel it vindicates their position on the movie. Dennis said the movie was not anti-Semitic. He pointed out that Wagner was anti-Semitic but he did not write anti-Semitic operas.
