Kidnapper Admits Role in Interrogation; Sheds Light on Syrian, Iranian Links

The IDF has released film from an interrogation of a Hezbollah member who took part in the kidnapping of two soldiers on the northern border. "My role was to stop the tank backup that was supposed to arrive to chase after the kidnappers," Hussin Ali Suleiman, 22, commander of the ant-tank unit of Hezbullah told the camera.

Suleiman was captured by IDF forces, and his interrogators released footage of the questioning on Monday. In the interrogation, Suleiman volunteered information which shed light on a range of topics linked to Hezbullah and Syria and Iran's link to activities in the area. He described his role in the kidnapping, but did not provide new information on the fate of the kidnapped soldiers.

During the interrogation Suleiman said he was not involved in the full kidnapping plot and did not know all of its details, but was aware of the general intentions. His role was to shoot anti-tank missiles on IDF tanks mobilized into the area following the kidnapping.

UPDATE 08/07 @ 17:39: The only video we can find is over at Ma'ariv (Hebrew only). We'll work on it but any help we can get would be appreciated.

UPDATE 08/07 @ 18:07: Sounds to us like the big news from this tape is Suleiman's admission that he and other Hezbollah terrorists received operational training in Iran in 2003, which Syria helped to facilitate:

Reuters reports Suleiman said: "We trained in Iran" and "We went from Beirut in civilian cars... to the airport in Damascus."
AP reports: "Suleiman told his interrogators he attended military maneuvers in Iran with 40 or 50 other Hezbollah guerrillas in 2003. He gave no details on the parts of the tape made public. He said the trainees drove from Beirut to the Syrian capital, Damascus, in Hezbollah cars and from there took a special flight to Iran without passing through passport control."
UPDATE 08/07 @ 19:07: Below is a rough translation of the relevant portion of the IDF video posted on Maariv -- if anyone wants to add to this, send us an email:

Q: When did you start in Hezbollah?
A: Around '98.
Q: You were 15 or 16?
A: Yes, 15 or 16. The course to be a soldier is about a month and a half.
Q: You were still in school or after school?
A: It was at night time, after evening prayers so it wouldn't be a problem with school. I learned classes about the Prophet and our beliefs and different educational things. In 2000, I joined the combat course.
Q: Where?
A: In the Bekaa Valley.
Q: Where?
A: Baalbek.

**

Q: How did you get to Tehran?
A: I went from Beirut in a car, in a Ranger Rover. They were Hezbollah cars. Cars of the military are of Hezbollah... not military but rather...
Q: How did you know they were of Hezbollah?
A: They are recognizable.
Q: How many people went?
A: 40 to 50.
Q: Together?
A: Together.
Q: From Beirut to where?
A: From Beirut to an airport in Damascus.
