silver starSAN DIEGO, Calif. — In his final act as a Navy SEAL, Aviation Ordnanceman 2nd Class (SEAL) Marc A. Lee rained down machine gun fire to help protect several of his teammates before he was felled by enemy fire in Iraq last week.

On Tuesday, Navy Secretary Donald C. Winter honored that heroism with approval of the Silver Star, Cmdr. Greg Geisen, a spokesman for the Naval Special Warfare Command in Coronado, Calif., said Wednesday afternoon.

The Aug. 2 death of Lee, 28, was the first suffered in Iraq by the Navy’s elite commando force.

Firefight Against Iraqi Insurgents Claims the War's First Navy SEAL
LA Times ^ | August 7, 2006 | Tony Perry

Posted on 08/07/2006 10:58:15 AM EDT by RDTF

When Navy SEAL Marc Alan Lee talked to his wife last week from Iraq, he was upbeat as always, discussing their future, his SEAL team's planned return to Coronado, Calif., in October and the prospect of starting a family.

The next day the 28-year-old Lee, a petty officer 2nd class, was killed in a prolonged firefight with insurgents in Ramadi, making him the first SEAL killed in Iraq.

Two other SEALs were wounded in what a reporter embedded with U.S. troops described as an hourlong firefight between heavily armed and aggressive insurgents and a force of SEALs, U.S. soldiers and Iraqi troops.

As one of the U.S. military's most elite and secretive fighting units, the SEALs almost never reveal their missions to the public, even long after completion.

Lee's death, announced Friday by the Pentagon, is virtually the first recognition that the SEALs are involved in the battle

And according to Juan Williams the SEALS are just like the MAZI's (Mulim NAZI) that are out to get us. Yes he did say that to Sissy Chrissy MAtthews on TV. There's a thread on this for today from earlier.

A true hero. I have read a lot of these silver star citations in the last two years and some ofthem are pretty amazing. I am curious why there have been no CMHs awarded. I know the red tape is thick for those but are there any in the works?
