James Webbs U.S. Senate campaign has been receiving donations from all over the country, including Beverly Hills, Calif., New York and Atlanta, according to campaign finance records. When funds raised by Webb are separated by zip code, six of the top 14 donating areas are outside of Virginia. The breakdown for Republican incumbent George Allen, on the other hand, shows his largest donating zip codes are all inside the state.
Webb has raised $1.3 million, while Allen has raised more than $10 million. Political analysts said it is imperative for Webb to raise more money if he is to be competitive with Allen, who some predict could raise $20 million.
Records show, as of June 30, Virginia contributions to Allen far exceed those made to Webb. Allen's highest raising zip code 22101 in McLean produced more than $200,000. The second-largest, 22102, also in McLean, produced $130,000. Webbs largest 22207 in Arlington raised $14,754, and his second-largest, 22030 in Fairfax, raised $7,700.
Webb has found success outside of Virginia, though. The famous 90210 zip code in Beverly Hills produced $5,350, and contributors from areas of Atlanta, New York, Culver City, Calif., and White Plains, N.Y., are among Webbs most generous. The $4,200 raised in each of these locations, however, pales in comparison with the amounts raised by Allen in his top zip codes each of which produced tens of thousands of dollars.
Kristian Denny Todd, spokeswoman for the Webb campaign, said his support has been strong in Virginia.
I'm sure Allen does have a big donor list that hes managed to help out with the tax cuts and the like, she said. Our donors are regular folks that give $20, $25 a pop.
Todd declined to give the campaigns fundraising goal, but said Webb would raise enough to be competitive.
Jennifer Duffy, editor of the Cook Political Report, said this could be difficult for the Democrat.
Hes a first-time candidate; hes never had to do this before, she said. Hes not completely comfortable with dialing for dollars.
Its not a big surprise that money is coming from out of state, she said. Democrats would like nothing more than to put a Senate seat in play.

Median househhold income for 22207 zip code in 1999: $100,390. For 22030 zip code, $79,659
Yeah, Webb's supporters are just regular folks, not them democrat elites.
George Allen ping.
Lol, its actually funny because this reminds me of the lamont race. The areas lamont did really well are the richest areas in CT, while the areas liberman did really well were the poorest areas in CT.
It will get less funny when thousands of
Democrat "voters" register at the last moment
on October 10th!

And they can still APPLY for an absentee
ballot as late as Oct 31...one week before
the election? What's the deadline for
turning the absentee ballot in...November
12? <>g<>
Ooops! Just noticed, November 12th
is a Sunday...maybe they'll extend
the time on receiving the abentee
ballots until midnight Monday the 13th?
I have no idea how that works. But a
Halloween deadline for APPLYING for an
absentee ballot is just too farcical.
In Delawre you can get an absentee ballot up until the DAY BEFORE election day.
Regular folks live in Beverly Hills?
George Allen 57/43.
Allen ping..
I'm regular folk and I've never given the Senator more than $50 at a time.
It's pretty sad that Jimmy only got $5,000 out of his Beverly Hillbilly friends...
"Democrats would like nothing more than to put a Senate seat in play.
BUT when the DNSC put out its spending priorities for media, VA wasn't on the list.
It's just that RATs all over the country are pulling for anyone to beat Allen. They figure if he makes a poor showing in November, that it will carry forward to '08. They're scared of him.
Flora- That is hilarious! I needed a laugh this morning.
Glad it made you laugh. Best way to start the week in my opinion.
LOL! Good job Flora! I hope you don't mind, but your handywork is now making the rounds in my office.
