"If you're too stupid to recognize that on your own, then we have to pass a law to tell you..."

Pure arrogance.

"If you're too stupid to recognize that on your own, then we have to pass a law to tell you, 'Don't be an idiot'"

The boundless arrogance of the nanny state; right up their with Hillary's "We're going to take things away from you for the common good"

What an idiot.

As long as you crack the window and smoke while moving every bit of it goes out the window.

I wonder how many kids are killed each year in car accidents?

Its awful I tells ya!
If youre to stupid to not put your kid in a guided land missle, then we'll have to pass a law to make you walk.

Canciamilla predicted that if AB 379 succeeds in limiting smoking in vehicles, other private property will be targeted next.

No doubt it will be. I've never understood how people could smoke in a car with the windows up. It's kind of like a gas chamber. But, it is quite possible to have the windows open, or even just the driver's window open and the cigarette held near it and the smoke blown out of it, and the smoke is hardly noticable. I've been in cars with smokers who have done that and the smoke is not noticable while the person is smoking or afterward. Of course, "science" tells us that if you get even the slightest whiff of tobacco smoke -- not even a whiff, but just a hint of its aroma -- well, you're on the express train to the Promised Land.

In a house even with the ventilation going, the smoke still kind of hangs around for a while -- so my guess is that goverment will incrementally work toward banning it at home, as well.

IMHO, we're way past the point where citizens need to be telling the state to $@!* off.

In the not too distant future, California will be openly declaring that parents have been legally re-designated as Breeders for the state-owned children.

Conditional custody only will be granted the Breeders, revokable without notice upon violation of any part of the Canon of Liberal Utopia.

I have warned my husband not to smoke in my car but he does anyway.

The smoke gets into the upholstery and the HVAC and it stinks up the car.

"If you're too stupid to recognize that on your own, then we have to pass a law to tell you, 'Don't be an idiot, don't smoke with your small kid in the car with you,' " Koretz said.

This statement, itself, is the epitome of stupidity.
Most people are too disengaged or apathetic to care where this is leading. Two observations should be sufficient to validate the absurdity of the movement:

When closer to 50% of adults smoked, the incidence of so-called "second-hand smoke" related illnesses was lower. So, empirically, the assertion fails the reality test.

Second, scientific studies carried on by legitimate non-agenda groups have found flat out that there is no connection between second-hand smoke and the illnesses claimed, specially the absurd "50,000 a year deaths". The largest (by far) such study by the U.N. World Health Organization, incidentally initiated to justify a war on second-hand smoke, done by true scientists, forced them to accept the science conclusion: there is no connection. I fact, they may have made a slight beneficial corelation.

The study was quietly shelved, and details have never been released.

Now, who is the stupid one Mr. Dork Koretz?

Has there ever been any hard evidence of the harm of second hand smoke?

I recall the original EPA report turned out to be a bunch separate studies lumped together with no clear outcome.

"I think we try to micromanage people's lives to an extent that's getting ridiculous, whether it's health or dietary or lifestyle decisions," said Assemblyman Joe Canciamilla, D-Pittsburg.

It is an upside down world when this "D" gets it and many FReepers don't. I regretfully will no doubt read some FR comments in support of this legislation.

I've been predicting this. Nationwide resteraunt and bar ban within 10 years, and the ban of smoking in houses with children within 20. In divorces, the spouse who smokes will lose custody, and eventually smoking around children will be a factor in big brother taking them away.

Enjoy the bloated, cancerous police state. We vote for it time and time again when we vote for the statist superparties, so that's what we must want.
