Saratoga Man 1st West Nile Case In Santa Clara Co. (BCN) SARATOGA, Calif. The first confirmed human case of West Nile virus in the Bay Area in 2006 is a 65-year-old Saratoga man who was never hospitalized and has recovered, Santa Clara County public health officials announced Tuesday.
The county Public Health Department suspects that a second man, a Cupertino resident over 50, may also have been infected with the virus but the results of confirming tests will not be known until next week, according to county Deputy Health Officer Dr. Sara Cody.
"We know that West Nile Virus is in our county and it was only a matter of time before a person would become infected," Cody said. "Still, the risk of any individual becoming ill from the bite of an infected mosquito is still very low."
County Vector Control District Manager Tim Mulligan said more ground fogging of insecticide in the Saratoga area is likely.
"We are looking at fogging as early as Wednesday or Thursday of next week," Mulligan said.
Officials continue to find evidence of West Nile virus in a section of the swanky Silicon Valley enclave, according to Mulligan.
"Quite a lot of (West Nile) positive dead birds in the south of (State Highway) 85 area of Saratoga," Mulligan said.
West Nile virus is a mosquito-borne malady first detected in the United States in 1999. It can cause inflammation of the brain, especially in the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. However, many people infected with the virus experience little more than a fever and head and body aches, and 80 percent show no symptoms at all, according to health officials.

Yup. Made its way across the country.
wouldn't want to spray with ddt cause you could die from cancer if you drank a swimming pool full of it.
the ban on ddt has killed more africans through malarial infection than aids has....what a joke.
I think that DDT will be allowed soon.
