You know what would help transportation? Well-planned cities with honest-to-goodness subway systems and park-and-ride commuter rail.



Yep.... at or at least around the metro areas. But roads are going to be needed for the long haul travel. I have no problem with people using them paying for them. That way my taxes don't go up for them and I only pay if I choose to drive them.

I believe people are resistant to toll roads because they pay plenty of taxes as it is and believe, correctly, that they're paying enough to fund transportation from existing tax dollars, rather than adding tolls on top. It's a matter of spending priorities.

Here in Charlotte NC the state govt is trying to fund the completion of our outer belt highway with tolls, while continuing to spend our tax dollars to build new roads and pave dirt roads in other parts of the state.
