A British Airways flight made an emergency landing in Iceland after smoke appeared in the cabin.

None of the 268 passengers and crew on the flight from London to Denver, Colorado, was injured. The Boeing 777 landed safely at Keflavik Airport, 30 miles from the capital Reykjavik.

A British Airways spokesman said the smoke had been traced to an oven in the galley area at the rear of the plane.

He said: "The pilot did declare an emergency and diverted to Keflavik in Iceland. The reason was not a fire on board, it was some smoke coming out of an oven in the rear galley area.

"Until the pilot knew what the situation was he did exactly what he should do, which was divert to the nearest airport."

The aircraft landed without deploying any of its emergency slides and all the passengers disembarked as normal, he said.

Engineers were checking the plane over to make sure it was safe to continue on its journey.

However, because the crew's shift was likely to "time out" before the end of the check, passengers were being put up in a hotel overnight. It was hoped that the flight could complete its journey to the United States on Sunday.

A Foreign Office spokesman said the British ambassador to Iceland had been in touch with the airport to ensure that all the passengers were safe.

Staff from the embassy were also went to the airport in case any assistance was required by passengers, he added.

It seems like there's been a lot of problems on flights out of the U.K. lately, specifically London.
