It's always amusing to hear non-local announcers mangle "Altahama..." like they did the spelling-
Altamaha is correct- see map here:

We call it all- tah'-maw-haw primarily, although some locals pronounce it as al- tam'- a- haw, but it's always a two-sound burst with emphasis on the second syllable-- the rest is usually a mush-mouthed mutter... you know how us backward Southerners are- between the bad teeth, corn likker, and chasing our sisters, we don't have much energy left for correct enunciation...
