Schwarzenegger Gives Up - His effort to reform Sacramento? Terminated.
Opinion Journal ^ | 8/29/06 | Shikha Dalmia

Arnold Schwarzenegger is following the wrong script.

After taking over as governor in 2003, he was expected to vanquish business-as-usual politicians in Sacramento--and pull California from the brink of fiscal ruin.

Instead, he has decided to put his own political future ahead of the economic survival of his beloved Golden State.

How else to interpret his recent move to join ranks with his opponents in Sacramento to put a pork-heavy $37 billion bond infrastructure proposal on the November ballot?

He's harassed Californian REpublicans like he's molested all the women in his life. I didn't vote for him the first time and I won't vote for him again. He's locked up the win by striking a deal with LA Mayor Antonio Villianagrosa.

If Arnie had been in Germany during the 30's, you can bet he would have appeased the Nazi's just as he's doing with the democrats. Arnie has no backbone and no core values. It's too bad McClintock isn't running for Governor again. Hopefully he will in 2010.

The education bond is equally misguided, given that 40% of the state's $94 billion general-fund revenues are already constitutionally earmarked for education.

Incredible! That's tantamount to paying $150,000 for a Yugo.

The housing bond is a disguised welfare boondoggle. Education - now that is an insult compounded by the parcel tax to raid still more from the taxpayers. Yay! Now let's get to the main show, transportation:

Yet only about half of this bond's revenues are slated for actual road building. Instead, $4 billion is going to mass transit even though mass transit's share of commuters, never large, has dropped by 9% since 2000.

Even after the proposed $19 billion transportation bond and the $384 billion in planned transportation spending by the state's biggest three regions (Los Angeles, the Bay Area and San Diego), California's traffic congestion will actually be worse in 2030 than it is today because the state is choosing pork and pet transit projects instead of prioritizing and adding much-needed highway capacity.

Its pork and pet mass transit projects instead of building new freeways and modernizing and upgrading existing ones to handle the additional traffic load. The politicians don't get it.

On ALL the bonds, vote NO!

(No more Olmert! No more Kadima! No more Oslo! )

Can't argue a bit.
The real issue, however, is what this bond measure will do to California. . . . this is an infrastructure bond in name only.

The housing bond is simply welfare masquerading as a capital project....

The education bond is equally misguided...

. . . only about half of this [transportation] bond's revenues are slated for actual road building. Instead, $4 billion is going to mass transit even though mass transit's share of commuters, never large, has dropped by 9% since 2000. (not to mention inclusion of other environmental projects like retrofitting buses with "green" technology)

. . . the state is choosing pork and pet transit projects instead of prioritizing and adding much-needed highway capacity.

You nailed it. Like a filthy, hopeless, urine-soaked alcoholic who wakes up one afternoon in an alley dumpster, California must first "hit bottom" before it can truly begin the path to recovery. Give the socialist scumbag Democrats full reign and let them flush the place down the toilet - - the sooner the better, because then California can sooner begin its recovery.

All Arnold is doing is slightly delaying the inevitable.

PLUS California will drive out part of it's tax base and jobs base by adopting KYOTO standards. Arnold signed onto this mad project. California will be actively reducing CO2 emissions. Industries will flee to other states and overseas.

Cali also pledged to build no coal burning plants. Only gas fired for electricity generation. Which is selfish and dumb.

It's too bad McClintock isn't running for Governor again. Hopefully he will in 2010.

California will be a war zone by 2010 as President Tancredo attempts to return its 15 million illegals to Mexico.

Don't you guys ever sleep? LOL

I heard McClintock say in an interview last week that even though revenues had risen 23 percent; spending had risen 29 percent.(Guess no one has introduced RINOld to that Veto pen in his desk.)

If RINOld had an ounce of class, he would have refused to run for reelection.

We'll just have to weather the liberal storm for the next four years and elect a true blue conservative, Tom McClintock for governor in 2010.

Happy Labor Day, Ya'll!

We'll just have to weather the liberal storm for the next four years and elect a true blue conservative

It may be too late.

Our governor has already implemented a plan to assure victory for the state's two most prominent, liberal anchor babies in 2010. Villar as governor and Nunez as the Mayor of Los Angeles.

Schwarzenegger will increase Nunez's and Villar's popularity and reinforce the public perception of their normalcy through high profile support and cooperation on legislation they introduce and champion. At the same time, Schwarzenegger will continue to marginalize the precepts of conservative policy through his bloody pulpit

The Schwarzenegger malignancy is liberal cancer metastasizing in the body politic of California at an alarming rate. Its tentacles are stretching out to destroy California's government, the CAGOP and the hard earned gains of California's productive class.

You are correct, California's anchor babies will all be in power soon and then the state will officially be destroyed.
Just get out while you can.

So what are you saying? We should vote for Angelides instead? What's the lesser of the two evils? Because the way I see it, if you don't vote for Arnie, you have cast a vote for Angelides. I sure don't want someone in office who will most assuredly up our taxes. Californians are already over-taxed. It's not just the gov we can blame as far as the mess this state is in, we can distribute that blame to all politicians that are voted in.
