There are no plans to air video capturing the shocking death of famed "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, but media experts predicted yesterday it will soon be circulating on the Internet....
"It shows that Steve came over the top of the ray and the tail came up, and spiked him here," said Stainton, pointing to his chest. "[Irwin] pulled it out, and the next minute he's gone."
The tape shows "no evidence Mr. Irwin was threatening or intimidating the stingray," Queensland State police Superintendent Michael Keating said.
While Stainton said every effort will be made to keep the video away from the public, media experts said they doubted the footage could be kept under wraps.
"The key point is once there's something on film, it's impossible to keep it contained," said Paul Levinson, chairman of Fordam University's Department of Communication and Media Studies.

I say every effort, short of illegality, should be made to make the life of anyone who posts that video miserable.

How do you expect to stop the aforementioned video?

That all depends on the greed of the few people who should have access to the film.

After the police review and release it, it should be destroyed.

How the hell did it get out in the first place? One would think the camera man would have kept it in a safe place.

The key point is once there's something on film, it's impossible to keep it contained Why is that?
If video something, I have a little video cassette. It doesn't get duplicated unless I do it or authorize it.
If I authorize it, I know who has the copy and I'm not going to do that unless I trust that someone.
Seems to me their waffling indicates there are already unaccounted-for copies.
Unfortunately.

It'll show up on Ogrish (or whatever it is), no doubt.

Who is waffling? It sure isn't Irwin's producer. Don't get what you mean.

I think you're right about Ogrish getting hold of it somehow. My gawd they get some gruesome stuff.
To: Pyro7480
I thought Steve wanted his death to be filmed (and I assume, aired) if and when it happened.

"That we know of." If the Inquirer or someone jetted down to Queensland and offered substantial quid to a police station clerk - enough to leave his/her job forever - they've got a copy.

He turned the film over to the police. So if it gets out, guess who leaked it.

From this quote:
While Stainton said every effort will be made to keep the video away from the public Ok - maybe "waffle" isn't the right word, but this sentence does not indicate to me that this Stainton person has much confidence in the security or whereabouts of the master.
Otherwise I would expect, "The video will not be released to the public. It will be destroyed".
If there was any chain-of-custody going on, he could say that with confidence.

They had to turn it into the police for their investigation and coroner inquiry. Steve's partner had to view it so he could sign off that it was the actual video of the incident.

Plan on the video getting out and plan on being disgusted. That's just how it is. Somebody will justify it in that it may save another snorkeler's life. How many times have we watched JFK's head get blown apart? Steve Irwin getting jabbed would be pretty tame in comparison.
