It was this same fear that had our new Tourism Australia "bloody hell" commercials condemned. How boorish we were to replace the old ads of artists (which didn't work) with new ones starring beach bunnies and camel drivers, who seemed no-airs friendly, deep-tanned outdoorsy and even drug-free. My brother and I have had a dream for about two decades now to travel to Australia together. We weren't going there to look at the art, we were going there to see a beautiful frontier continent and a unique people. And dive great waters!

Greer is jealous because when she finally passes, all that will be heard is a loud "flush".

People should just ignore her. Up until this story, I wasn't even aware that she's still alive.

"The animal world has finally taken its revenge on Irwin," I can't remember Irwin ever harming an animal. IMHO the animals and conservation in general have lost one of their greatest friends.

Although very different men in virtually all other regards, Steve Irwin, St. Francis Assisi, and Teddy Roosevelt all shared very like attitudes toward nature, animals, conservation and man's place and responsibilities in creation.
I can only imagine the campfire tales being traded in the wilds of the great beyond....

Thank you all for not posting that appalling photo of Germ, nekkid as a bluejay.

I think I would rather sleep in the same bed with a crocodile. Probably softer to the touch and smells nicer.

It's one thing to hold opinions as blatantly offensive as gloating over the death of a human being, it's quite another not only to state it in public but to feel compelled to do so. The whole thing has a "stick a finger in the eye of the
bourgeoisie" aspect to it that is one of the intellectual left's least attractive cultural features, and to attempt to rationalize it with simple falsehoods as Greer did compounds the sin. She may or may not be above us but she certainly ought to be above that.
Clearly she is not. And so we are left not with the image of a brave iconoclast bucking a trend, but of a disagreeable little girl sloshing paint over something beautiful so that no one else can enjoy what she is incapable of appreciating herself. That is very sad, but not very rare, behavior.
