Last January, we were in Wyoming on one of those snow coach things going into Yellowstone. Our driver was telling about an incident at McDonalds in a small town there. Someone came in holding a drawn weapon for the purposes of holding up the McDonalds cashiers. Our driver laughed and said, "This is Wyoming -- a bunch of the patrons pulled THEIR weapons." End of robbery attempt.

I always cite this incident when I argue for concealed permits.
In many places it is still ok to wear sidearms as long as they are in plain view. This is the way it should be which would cause a downturn in many crime stats.

Suzanna Gratia-Hupp was angry over a law that prevented her from saving her family from a madman. That's the reason she ran for the Texas Legislature to get it changed. People will tell you different things about Luby, but it was a cold-blooded massacre by a psychopath bent on slaughtering every one. It is cold comfort he didn't completely succeed in his objective that day.

"Applicants also must be up to date on all student loans, must not owe back child support or taxes and must not have a Class A or Class B misdemeanor"This part is a bit troubling. Sounds like if you're behind on making student loan payments or owe back taxes you're going to be deprived of your rights and can't get a permit.
And what exactly are Class A & B misdemeanors?
To: 2Am4Sure
The actual disqualifier is not 'being behind' on student loans but rather being in full default of taxes, governmental fees, student loans or child support.
In Texas a Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in a county jail and/or a fine up to $4000. Examples of these offenses are assault causing bodily harm, violating a protective order, criminal tresspass, DWI with a prior conviction, theft of $500 or more, burglary of a vehicle, etc.
Again, in Texas, a Class B misdemeanor is punishable by up to 180 days in a county jail and/or a fine of up to $2000. Examples of these would be indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, first time DWI, making terroristic threats, theft of $50 or more.

"As a direct result of the Oct. 16, 1991, Luby's incident, in 1995, Texas lawmakers...passed a law that allowed Texans to obtain a concealed-carry handgun permit." No mention that they had passed it before, only to have it vetoed by the latest Socialist scumbag to assume room temp.

Concerns were raised that the new concealed handgun law would create more problems than it would solve
It has created more problems than it solved. Sovereign Citizens have ceded their 2nd Amendment rights to government bureaucracies who will slowly burden the "right" with more and more restrictions over time.

There was a young woman there that day. She watched as her parents were gunned down. She had a gun in her car, but couldn't carry it in. She's now a State Representative and she was in Penn & Teller's show about gun control. If you ever get a chance to see it, I suggest you do.
I think it should be required watching in every schoolroom in America.

I'm baffled by the statement that rape victims who resist with a gun are *only half* as likely to be injured as those who do not resist.
Say what?
You aim a gun at a potential rapist and he just keeps on coming towards you and you get injured? Why isn't he already dead?
I don't quite understand this. It's unsettling to know that having a gun only lessens your chances of being hurt by 50%. What am I missing?
