PHELAN — Several assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons were seized and a man was arrested following an altercation with his son’s landlord during which he allegedly threatened to kill the man while displaying a gun.
Deputies were sent to the 10400 block of Wilson Ranch Road around 9:45 a.m. Saturday when a victim, the landlord of a residence, reported that he was involved in a fight with the father of one of his tenants.
The landlord shut off the water to a residence and placed a lock. Robert Gardella, 52, of Phelan came to discuss the issue, threatening to kill the victim and lifted his shirt, displaying a black semi-automatic handgun in his waistband, officials said.
At the time Gardella had left the residence and the victim gave authorities a description of the man’s vehicle, but a short time later Gardella came back on his own.
“Mr. Gardella returns, unarmed, and he denies possessing or displaying any handguns during the earlier shouting match,” said Sgt. Lon Jacobs of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Victor Valley station.
Gardella was arrested and officials got a search warrant for his home.
There they found several guns inside the residence including several SKS assault rifles, a Glock 17 semi-automatic handgun, and a silver and black Walther .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun, just like the one described by the victim, officials said.
The investigation is ongoing to determine whether any of the guns are not registered to Gardella.
He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, making terrorist threats, and exhibiting a firearm and is being held in the Victor Valley Jail on $50,000 bail.

I would posit the bold theory that in the good old days there existed a lot more motivation in the populace to avoid being a loser, whereas today a lot of people don't give a darn.
