What an oxymoron! Claiming to be a "Liberal Evangelicals" is like claiming to be an "Intelligent Democrat".

Every election cycle the same old Sokourners crew likes to make some noise in the press and pretend like they are a brand-new, growing movement.

They peaked in the 70s, and it wasn't much of a peak.

Sounds like a group from the World Council of Churches. They are far from an Evangelical position. They most likely don't believe the Bible anyway, so why should any true Christian listen to them?

"Liberal Evangelicals"? Is that the new PC term for "Muslim Clerics"?

Jim Wallis will not be successful. As Will Rogers said,"I don't belong to an organized party, I am a Democrat." I doubt seriously that he can get a concensus. But, hey, it's America, he can give it a try.
I do hope he does not do anything to offend radical jihadists though, or he will spend the next few months apologizing. / sarcasm on!

...leaders to argue education, poverty and the environment are all evangelical issues.

While I will concede that these are three important issues they do not have the weight of abortion - the killing of an innocent human being. As a Christian the war on terror (will there be freedom of religion in the US {and hopefully in other parts of the world} in 40 years) and abortion are the two most important issues of the election for me. So far, the Democrats don't have a place for me at their table on either of these issues.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

The Democrats will NEVER make inroads among evangelicals until they start backing homeschooling.

That is the gold standand for homeschooling evangelicals, and Democrats will NEVER yield control of kids minds away from the government school system.

This is just not something to be concerned about. It won't happen.

"but how should we define religious values?" said Jim Wallis"

If you have to ask the question, you already lost the debate.

There aren't enough liberal Christians for this to make any difference.

Liberal Evangelical = Somebody who found a verse or two in the bible they think will help them justify pacifism, socialism, racism, anti-semitism, rape, sodomy, drug abuse, thievery, etc.

For people who are real Christians, can not and must not except the ideology of the Democrat Party if they really intend
to make heaven their eternal resting place after death.
These Democrats are in church just as they are in politics, anything goes, if it feels good do it. A lousy bunch of hipocrates who believe in abortion of unborn babies, gay marriage just to name a few.
99% of the lefts faith in God is false and, contrary to the Holy Bible.

When your liberal clergyman spins his Democrat sales pitch into his sermons or Bible studies, walk out. No conservative should cower in submission as liberals campaign for Democrats who have no clue as to the meaning of leading a disciplined Christian life. They should not get away with it.

This was the Dem's big plan, concocted after the '04 pounding we gave them (thanks to the religious right). We knew about it all along...pathetic. I smelt the stank of it comming when I saw my first "Proud member of the religious left" bumper sticker, over a year ago, co-inciding with the first MSM focus pieces on "liberal religious".

Wait 'till the 08 DNC convention, where they'll reference GOD like never before. It'g gonna look so fake, I can't wait for it. The media is going to desperately try to keep their claims bouyant.

Ah, they did this all in the 80's. Pax Christi, Bread for the World, Witness for Peace, etc., etc., all calling for a nuclear freeze, singing Castro's praises, and calling Reagan dangerous. Nothing new here.
