PA Trendlines:
09-20 Rasmussen .. Casey +10
09-18 Keystone .... Casey +7
08-27 Gallup ......... Casey +18
08-21 Keystone .... Casey +5
08-21 Rasmussen .. Casey +8

Casey has improved two points since the last Keystone Poll. He has also improved two points in the latest Rasmussen poll. Gallup's last one here looks more and more like an outlier -- Santorum is down, but not 18 points.

Also important to note is how many undecideds are left in this poll and in the last Keystone Poll (12 and 13 percent respectively). By contrast, Rasmussen has found 7 and 6 percent undecided and has Casey leading by a couple more points.

This indicates that some of Casey's support is very soft and can be brought to Santorum. The question can Santorum sway that 3 or 4 percent away from Casey and if he does will it be enough? I just don't know yet.

Is this "likely voters"?

Rasmussen's current survey on Pennsylvania is still on the premium section of his site. RCP leaked it though and has Casey up 10 and Rendell up 20.

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY? What the hell is wrong with that state!!! Casey is an EMPTY SUIT, a total dimwit, dullard and intellectual deficient. I could understand if Casey had anything to offer, but the coward won't even agree to another debate with Santorum and the one he did agree to was on Meet the Press, during Labor Day weekend, not a debate on local PA. TV. I give up on this country...

No it's not. 604 RV.

However I don't know if the distinction really matters in this race. Rasmussen's poll today here was of likely voters and shows a very similar result. The only difference may be that registered voters are more apt to be undecided (explaining Keystone's high undecided numbers)

There are bits of good news here and there for Santorum, but honestly, an incumbent who can't get out of the 30s has very little hope.

This race is strange. Polls show a huge Casey lead. Polls show momentum moving toward Santorum. Then it appears that any momentum disappears and Casey widens his lead again. What gives?

Did Santorum defeat a Democrat in the last election? Isn't PA a democratic state?

Santorum beat Rep Klink in the 2000 elections. He beat incumbent Dem Harris Wofford in 1994.

PA is slightly tilted Democratic, but its very much a swing state still.

Keystone leans about 7 points toward the rat so this is good news for Rick.

Santorum is and will....

Swann will also make inroads, now that he is finally playing the pay raise card...

Whether enough to win I don't know... but its about time his campaign started doing something.

I don't get it either. Casey has nothing to offer and his campaign so far has been a joke. Santorum is running great ads and Casey's are lame. I am ashamed to live in this pathetic state. Rendell raises our income tax and is rewarded with a 20 point lead. It makes me want to puke...

The illogical and senselessness of people who vote Democrat never fails to amaze me. Santorum is a strong senator for Pennsylvania. Even Ed Rendell praised him. He is an intellectual force in the Senate, a rare one, and a guy who works hard and clearly has the ability and intellectual heft to do the job.

Casey on the other hand has nothing but his stupid last name to recommend him. I'm so sick of voters who don't realize how good they have it under Bush with a booming economy and a lot of security that we didn't have before. But because they're so mad about Iraq, the freaking pussies, and the TV news has made them feel so horrorified by the violence there because they can never show anything positive about the place, why they'll have their little brainless temper tantrums and vote for a total IDIOT like Casey and throw out an accomplished, and by the way, powerful senator like Santorum to instead put in a mealy-mouthed dope who will be a junior back bencher senator for years to come and have no influence in what will STILL BE A REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED SENATE next years. What fools, what total fools to vote off their pathetic, brain-dead TV news begotten "feelings" that make them oh so mad at Bush because god forbid he's fighting and destroying Al Qaeda in Iraq.

Gawd I can't stand the blue states, and I live in one myself. Such stupid, stupid, stupid people.

You said it! ;-)

Meanwhile conservative states like the Dakotas and Montana rarely throw out even the most liberal senators, apparently because they cherish the seniority. Never mind if the senator doesn't even represent their views. PA already has a senator, in the majority party, with 16 years of House and Senate experience, and they appear to be hell bent on throwing him out. The next time America is attacked because we are weaker than we should be, I don't want to hear a single Casey voter complain.

It's the Casey name...Casey's father was such a beloved man, Catholic, and a rare conservative Democrat. The older voters recognize the name and feel that by voting for the name, that the rosier times they remember will return!

Santorum is running against a ghost, and a politically potent one at that!

Actually, it's Philly and Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is about 12:1 Dem and Allegheny County, Fayette County and the other areas around Pittsburgh are also heavily Dem. Thus, James Carville's description of Pennsylvania as "Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between."
