BOYLE HEIGHTS, Calif. -- A man accused of assaulting a radio reporter who was investigating a charter school in Boyle Heights was arrested Thursday, police said.
Ramon Flores, 31, was taken into custody during a traffic stop near Boyle and Eighth streets in Boyle Heights about 8:15 a.m., said Lt. Paul Vernon of the Los Angeles Police Department.
ABC radio reporter Sandy Wells had tried to interview parents, students and administrators outside the Academia Semillas del Pueblo Charter School in the 4700 block of Huntington Drive about 7:30 a.m. June 1 when he saw a silver sedan speeding at him, Vernon said.
The car jumped the curb and went onto the sidewalk. Wells jumped out of the way and was not struck, Vernon said.
A man then got out of the car and took his audio tape.
"Wells got a pretty good look at the man," Vernon said. "Once the detectives had a possible suspect, they presented a picture array to Wells, who picked out Flores from among five similar-looking men."
This morning's arrest ended a three-month investigation.
Detectives searched Flores' home in the 1000 block of Fresno Street looking for evidence linking Flores to the assault.
They also impounded his silver Dodge Magnum, which matched the description Wells had provided to police at the time of the assault.
Flores was booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, likely to cause great bodily harm. He is also expected to be charged with robbery. His bail was set at $80,000.
The school has been accused of allegedly teaching Hispanic culture at the expense of a conventional education.
"The principal is outspoken about teaching Hispanic roots. Some people see this as a segregated school. The reporter was there to report on it. We don't know how (Flores) was connected," Officer Marjan Mobasser said.
DOUG I remember this school was it all over the SO CAL News media

Good news that they caught this b*st*rd.
Interesting.
i agree!
But, oh man, it's SO RACIST!
heh heh heh
I found at an early age a simple motivation for keeping an open mind to race.
It opened up the pool of available women where I was by an additional 33%. It was a compelling enough thought and provided immediate rewards.
My simplified conclusion: these racists bastards aren't real men.
Yeah and it's Bush's fault ta boot!!!
