Clinton Faults Bush Team Efforts to Get bin Laden Before Sept. 11 (not scrappleface)

Former President Bill Clinton, angrily defending his efforts to capture Osama bin Laden, accused the Bush administration in an interview to be broadcast Sunday of doing far less to stop Mr. bin Laden before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

In the interview for “Fox News Sunday,” Mr. Clinton defended the steps he took after the bombing of the destroyer Cole in 2000 and faulted “right-wingers” for their criticism of his efforts to capture Mr. bin Laden, the Qaeda leader.

“But at least I tried. That’s the difference in me and some, including all of the right-wingers who are attacking me now,” Mr. Clinton said when asked whether he had failed to anticipate the full threat from Mr. bin Laden. “They had eight months to try; they did not try. I tried. So I tried and failed.”

The Sept. 11 attacks occurred almost eight months after President Bush succeeded Mr. Clinton in January 2001.

“I authorized the C.I.A. to get groups together to try to kill him,” Mr. Clinton said.

“Now if you want to criticize me for one thing,” he continued, “you can criticize me for this: after the Cole, I had battle plans drawn to go into Afghanistan, overthrow the Taliban and launch a full-scale attack search for bin Laden.” But he said he was not able to follow through with his plans, adding, “We needed basing rights in Uzbekistan, which we got after 9/11.”

Mr. Clinton complained at the time that the C.I.A. and F.B.I. had refused to certify that Mr. bin Laden was responsible for the Cole attack.

Earlier this month, Mr. Clinton dismissed as “indisputably wrong” a television movie that suggested he was too distracted by the Monica Lewinsky scandal to confront the Islamic militant threat that culminated in

So when he bombed Baghdad on the day of the impeachment vote -- that was because he thought Bin Ladin was there in Bagdhad?

"At least I tried..."
In Liberal-land, this passes for accomplishment, apparently.

All the dhimmowits are doing this now (Some democrat chick was on Fox this weekend defending Clinton with this reasoning)..though Bush was only in office nine months...and it's well known that the 9-11 Hijackers had been planning for years...somehow the Clintonistas and other dummiecrat talking mouthpieces are solely blaming the Bush administration and it's "failed" polices for 9-11 at that time...pretty darn convenient of them...jeeeeezzz. The Factless (Democrats) never let facts get in the way of their rants...

Clinton "I tried and I failed" He then goes on to say he left a "comprehensive terrorism policy."

The question, so far unasked, why the hell would the Bush Admin. follow an admittedly failed policy?

Bill Clinton as Navin Johnson:

Navin R. Johnson: Chris, I know I tried to get Osama bin Laden for four weeks and three days, but to me it seemed like nine weeks and five days. The first day seemed like a week and the second day seemed like five days. And the third day seemed like a week again and the fourth day seemed like eight days. And the fifth day Monica went to see her mother and that seemed just like a day, and then she came back and later on the sixth day, in the evening, when we saw each other, that started seeming like two days, so in the evening it seemed like two days spilling over into the next day and that started seeming like four days, so at the end of the sixth day on into the seventh day, it seemed like a total of five days. And the sixth day seemed like a week and a half. I have it written down, but I can show it to you tomorrow if you want to see it.

Heck, who's kidding who ... he liked the under the desk activities with Monica about ALL ELSE. He could care less as long as HE was being taken care of.

BTW, did they EVER release Clinton's MEDICAL RECORDS?

Old bulbous nose was lost in drugs and sex.

Hmmmmmm. Mr. Clinton's appearance on Fox seems to have been interesting. It's good when a Statesman can dialogue with the media and help shed light on important matters.

Oddly, this NYT coverage makes me wish I had seen this interview with Clinton. Unfortunately, all I've had time to see has been the total melt-down that Clinton had with Chris Wallace.

though Bush was only in office nine months...

More like 7 1/2 months, having cleaned up a vandalized White House and suffered the obstructionism of their transition "team"...

These clowns can spin it however they like...."Facts is Facts".

Actually in 2002 Richard Clarke was full of praise for the Bush folk for jumping right on terrorism.

If he had tried as hard to get Bin Laden as he has tried to hide his lies he wouldn't need to be defending his failure.
