I'm afraid that if I were a betting sort of person that there are already copies of that tape. The police held on to it for all too long, imo. John Stainton should have chained himself to it when he turned it over. If it were me, I would have remained with that tape until the police were satisfied a crime wasn't committed.
Not to mention if any one of the people in the police station had a video phone...
It's heartbreaking what people will do...even at the expense of a grieving family.

Yes, there would be no purpose served by airing the footage. Except for satisfying the urges of sickos who want to see it.
I remember hearing that Irwin would want his death studied to the extent it could enhance our knowledge of animals (or something like that), but we don't need a public release to do that.
