Lindy's cheesecake was overrated!
All over, but here's the store locator.
http://www.manhattanspecial.com
I heard folks ordered more strudel than cheesecake, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Never bothered with names in Chinatown, only addresses. Was that the one downstairs on the west side of Mott?
Speaking of Vincents, late 70's, very late (or early) a bunch of us grab a table in the back. One guy has a real airhead with him. She gets the medium sauce, "Eeeewww, too hot!" The waiter brings her the mild, same reaction. The waiter takes back the order, comes back out with a fresh plate of calamari, nothing on it, and slams down a bottle of Heinze ketchup and says, "Mildest wer got!"
Everybody was spewing beer from their noses!!!
Didn't know that. I thought New Park was only gas. Live and learn.
Wo Hop is still on Mott, yep, downstairs. greasy noodles for after hitting the after hours.
Best hangover preventative ever.
Should we take pity on MilspecRob and tell him what an egg cream is???
Your call guys!
Better give him an exact recipe. It's one of the few NYC treats anyone can make at home...
p.s.
You know they closed and knocked down the building where McHale's was on Eighth Avenue? Walked by the other day and felt like crying...
I don't know the measurements. I do it by eye and taste. When I haven't made them in a while, I usually 'get it' by the third.
I really miss sarsaparilla, in a bottle.
Don't look at me, I was NYC's worst bartender in my youth. My skills haven't improved.
Don't think I'm familiar with McHales. But then again.....
Polka dots!
LOL.....he'll never "get it", because if you haven't tasted it, you just can't imagine it. But what the hey....tell him and I'll post the "how to", if you want me to. :-)
McHales looked like a blarney stone -- 48 or 49 and 8th. Broadway dancer/actor waitresses, great burgers/steaks, and a weird customer base -- everything from teamsters to celebrities. If you remember the old Runyon's on the upper east side, it was a lot like that...
I knew that McHale's was closed and then knocked down.....very sad.
LOL !
When you stop At Vincents, get me a double order Squingil/Calamari au biscoti w/hot, 1 Linguini w/mussels w/mild, 1 shrimp/calimari au biscoti w/hot and ......
what...?
Oh, I thought you were taking orders...:-(
