Women Who Regret Their Abortions Take to the Streets to Help Others

New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- As a national women's magazine celebrates women who have had abortions, women who have faced the emotional and physical pain of an abortion will make their voices known across the nation this week. Led by women in New York who regret their abortions, local awareness campaigns will take place across the country.

After 33 years of America's abortion debate, the voices of women who have experienced abortion's devastating effects are being heard more loudly and in greater numbers.

On Wednesday, some of these voices will be heard on the streets of New York City, as participants in the Silent No More Awareness Campaign conduct one of numerous similar events taking place this month across the country.

The women will stand on 6th Avenue between 49th and 50th Street, holding signs that say "I Regret My Abortion" and speaking about their abortion experience.

"Hearing woman after woman speak about the problems created by abortion really puts this issue in perspective," says Georgette Forney, who had an abortion at age 16.

"Despite the sadness of each woman's story we are also able to share the help we've found to deal with the pain, which gives those still hurting hope," Forney added.

The campaign is a joint project between the National Organization of Episcopalians for Life and Priests for Life and seeks to raise awareness about the harm abortion does to women and their families. The campaign also lets women victimized by abortion know that hundreds of healing programs are available across the nation.

Jennifer O’Neill, an actress and longtime model who had an abortion, is the national celebrity spokesperson for the Silent No More Awareness Campaign. She has addressed numerous forums and organizations and told her story of healing after abortion.

Janet Morana, of Priests for Life, says the campaign will let [women who have had abortions] know they're not alone."

"We want to help women who are hurting from abortion find peace and healing," she said.

The ONLY good that can come out of the 50 million babies killed is the hope that these women can convince others not to follow the same path.

IMO these women are the only people that can stop this.

Actually, it's eight men and one woman in SCOTUS who can stop it, but these women may make five of them sit up and listen.

True LOL. I figured someone would come around and educate me, after I re-read my post:') I meant that they are the ones that can reach out to people.

Do they think of the anniversaries? What the child would have been doing at five, 10, or at the prom? And what career would the mother have guided the child to? Does that leave a void in the soul? Is there any way they, and we, can atone for it?

I think the atonement for it would start by ending the slaughter of over ONE MILLION babies every year.

"...celebrates women who have had abortions..."

The magazine should also celebrate women who have had all their healthy teeth pulled, and drowned healthy puppies, too.

I'm afraid about how weak the very notion of "life, liberty and the persuit of happiness" has become.

I went to the one last year as an observer. The demonstration was very moving, took a lot of courage--and got quite a bit of attention from usually rushed and jaded New Yorkers.

In New Orleans there used to be this hall that honored people that died from AIDS.
