BOSTON - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Deval Patrick acknowledged Wednesday he had more contact with a convicted rapist than he had previously told reporters, after a report showed he corresponded with the man in the 1990s and wrote at least two letters to the parole board on his behalf.
Patrick, who last week said he had written just one letter more than a decade ago on behalf of convicted rapist Benjamin LaGuer, said he had to correct himself after going back and "doing his homework."
The Boston Globe reported Wednesday that Patrick had twice written to the Parole Board, in 1998 and 2000, supporting the release of LaGuer, who maintains he was innocent of raping a 59-year-old neighbor two decades ago.
DNA testing in 2002 linked LaGuer to the crime scene.
On Wednesday, Patrick said that he believed at the time he wrote the letters there were credible allegations of racism among the jurors. Before the DNA testing, the case had attracted intellectuals including former Boston University President John Silber and historian Elie Wiesel.
Patrick said he now believes LaGuer is guilty, based on the DNA evidence.
"He raised serious issues and I think they have been taken seriously. They deserve to be taken seriously," he said.
Recent polls show Patrick with a strong lead over Republican Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey in the Massachusetts governor's race.
The party of the serial rapist does not surprise me. Better put some ice on that. Remember, the first grope is free according to N.O.W..
For those outside of Mass, Patrick is a moonbat socialist.
He was part of the "this guy is being framed by the police because he's black" crowd. Lageur pressed for DNA testing because he thought it would exonerate him, but it proved beyond a doubt that he was the perp.
The next Massachusetts governor ....a friend of rapists and illegal immigrants.
He's toast...heard it on talk radio WRKO
He should be ashamed. He is sneaky
I dont trust someone who trys to convince you he is just like you.
LISTEN BUD YOU LIVE IN A MANSION 88 ACRES IN MASS.
HOUSES ELSEWHERE.....AH YOUR NOT LIKE US.
TRUE.
Perp's got a website: http://www.benlaguer.com/
May I just say it is a shame Christi M. is so fixed on
making Keary Healy lose, that he is forgetting some people actually would want him to win..
He doesnt even believe he can..If he would stop trying to attack Healy and go for Patrick he could have a chance.
Christi listen, some people are threw with the 2 parties.
YOU GOT ANYTHING BUT ANGER TO BRING TO THE TABLE?
D.Patrick doesnt deserve to win. Give us a break.
I don't think he's toast. The anti-Democratic vote is being split between the Republican and an so-called Independent.
This is one of the few issues where we know where this race-pimp weezel stands. I watched the debate last night and still don't kjnow what this guy stands for except not rolling back the income taxes and keeping property taxes down. I guess if I were building a $6 million dollar house, I'd be a little concerned about property taxes.
From his closing debate statement:
"...If you're tired of talk, if you're tired of government by sound byte and photo-op, and gimmick, and you want lasting and meaningful change, I ask that you support Tim Murray and me. My priorities are clear. I want to rebuild our innovation and small business economy. I want to cut the property tax and I want to make education pre-K through college the same transformative experience for others that it was for me. My approach is also clear. I want the best people and the best ideas from wherever they come, regardless of party. I will always put the people and the public's interest first, and I will govern for the long-term, not just the short-term political sound-bytes. I don't have all the answers, no candidate does. But I do know that Massachusetts took a chance 40 years or more ago, on a kid from the south side of Chicago, and gave me opportunities I could not have even imagined and all I want to do is pass that on to you. Good night."
I'm a conservative/libertarian and agree with everything he just said, but it doesn't mean anything and when someone refuses to look you in the eye and tell you what they will do as governor, it's probably because you would not agree with it.
Deval is for:
- Racial Preferences
- No tax cut
- Liciences for Illegal Aliens
- In state tuition for Illegal Aliens
and that's just what we can understand.
BTW, does anyone know what "Educating the whole student..." really means???
Nothing to see here. Move along.
Look any doubt on the Dems side they will not show up.
ITS THAT SIMPLE. They talk, the talk, but they don't walk.
Not for someone who is in doubt. If enough doubt is raised.
THEY (DEMS) WILL BE SITTING AT HOME WATHCHING SPRINGER.
In Masssachusetts the Democrats are the public unions - especially the teacher's unions. They always show up and they always get out the vote. So essentually you have those who consume the taxes voting against those who pay the taxes.
You can also depend on Devoid repealing Prop 2 1/2, the law that keeps Property Taxes down.
I would suspect it's code for teaching more than the three-R's and a message sent to the teacher's union that they should worry less about those pesky MCAS tests.
wHAT ARE YOU DOING ON FREE REPUBLIC? Obviouly working for D. Patrick. Sorry it looks bad for him.
WILLIE HORTON, PART DEUX! Weeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Absolutely. Those who make a living at the expense of property taxes (teachers, cops, town workers, etc.) have hated prop 2 1/2 and support every single override vote ever dreamed of.
I hear a song coming on....Elton JOhN?
IT'S SAD...SO SAD...IT'S A SAD SAD SITUATION.
Not a chance. By the way, have you ever even visited Massachusetts? If you think this is going to kill him (as it should), you should get out of Texas more often and see how messed up the Blue States really are.
