Detectives Baffled by Odd Paraphernalia

A man who plunged to his death from the sixth floor of a German aristocrat’s home had been taking part in a gay orgy while bingeing on cocaine, an inquest was told today.
Tony Casey, 38, had five times the potentially fatal level of the drug in his body when he plunged from the Chelsea roof terrace of Count Gottfried von Bismarck.
Both men had taken part in an elaborate all night gay orgy with three others.
When police officers arrived at the scene they discovered the floor of the penthouse flat in Draycott Place was littered with sexual paraphernalia.
The living room floor was covered with a huge rubber tarpaulin on which was spread towels, lubricants, phallic objects, straps, paddles and a padlock.
There were two buckets filled with sex toys, mirrors propped up in three of the four corners and bottles of vodka scattered around.
During the evening Mr Casey had been seen snorting cocaine in the kitchen but sometime after 5am had declared he felt unwell and asked for the keys to the roof terrace.
One of the guests, Paul Noel Dorrian, 41, told the hearing at Westminster Coroners Court that he had gone to find unemployed Mr Casey on the roof terrace to check how he was and, at his request, had returned to fetch him a glass of water.
He said: "I went to the kitchen to get a glass and when I came back he had gone."
"I heard a noise as I was coming to the top of the stairs. I walked into the space and he was not there. I thought, 'is it possible that he could have fallen over?'
"I looked over the edge and then in shock I went back down the stairs because I had seen enough to know that somebody had fallen over."
In a panic, he returned downstairs and broke the news to the others before running out of the flat and catching a cab to his own home.
He later returned at the request of the police and explained to the court that he had fled the scene because he was already in a relationship and "should not have been doing what I had been doing."
A police investigation revealed the area where Mr Casey had last been standing, which was bordered only by a low wall, was covered in slippery mud and algae.
Mr Casey, who lived a few hundred yards away from Count von Bismarck, fell 60 feet and suffered massive head and internal injuries.
He was pronounced dead at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital little more than an hour after his fall in August.
Consultant pathologist Dr Kenneth Shorrock said blood tests had found no alcohol in Mr Casey’s body but a level of 5.4 milligrams of cocaine.
He said: "Cocaine is very unpredictable. People can survive astronomically high levels or can die from small levels. Amounts of between one to 20 milligrams have been associated with death."
Recording a verdict of death by mis-adventure, Coroner Paul Knapman said: "Many things most would consider unusual or bizarre were conducted by consenting adults in private that night."
"All the evidence points to Tony Casey falling, probably backwards. He fell accidentally while under the influence of cocaine."
Outside court Count von Bismarck said: "This has all been very upsetting. It is a huge tragedy, such a tragedy."
Mr Casey’s mother and brother declined to comment.
The death marks the second time that Count von Bismarck, the great-greatgrandson of Germany’s Iron Chancellor, Otto von Bismarck, has besmirched the family name in controversy.
Almost exactly 20 years ago the 43- year-old was cleared of blame after Olivia Channon, 22, the daughter of a Tory minister, died of a heroin overdose at a party he hosted.
