Why are we always so fast to fall for the old "to build more roads, we have to raise taxes" routine. We are taxed out the whazoo now--why don't we demand more efficient use of the taxes that are collected?

There is so much wasted money in every level of our government. Why are we standing still for this and just assuming that it's the only way things can be.

One way to save plenty of money is to cut out all the waste in school spending. Cut out the numerous School superintendants, for starters, and the rest of that bunch. We don't need mulitmillion dollar sports complexes.

We have just gotten used to this being the way businsss is done in any government program. Time to take a deep breath and start demanding a pull back on a lot of this stuff.

How much has the Texas gas tax increased in the past 15 years?

Hint - zero.

How much buying power does the Texas gas tax have today, versus 15 years ago?

Hint - about half.

You already got your way, and the traffic sucks. Now we have psycho-governor who's selling out control of our highways system with contracts that almost certainly contain non-compete clauses.

Thanks much.

I agree, basil. The people pushing toll roads are like lemmings: "Must have toll roads. Must have toll roads. Must have . . ."

We don't need toll roads, and they will be a bane--like HOV lanes, like light rail--sucking up money like vampires.

Why don't we use some of the money the State already has sitting in the bank to build our roads?

Here's some 2003 stats. I wonder how much it is now?

The State of Texas has approximately $53.77 billion of the taxpayer's money it is not using

That's the question of the year! We don't have to accept anything. This is OUR state and if We have control of OUR elected officials, like it was meant to be, OUR money would be spent more wisely.
