PA-12: Murtha Challenger Diana Irey: 'This Battle's Worth the Fight'
by Ivy J. Sellers 10-10-2006 @ 05:23 PM
The spunky Diana Irey, who is challenging Rep. John Murtha (D.-Pa.) for the House seat he's occupied for over three decades, spoke with conservative bloggers today during our weekly lunch meeting near Capitol Hill.
Irey, a petite brunette who's "pushing five feet," stands out in stark physical contrast to the robust, white-haired Murtha -- but the differences between the two don't end there.
A staunch conservative, Irey entered the race in March because she wanted to ensure her three teenagers could have hope for the future. She feels strongly about supporting America's soldiers in Iraq and elsewhere, a position Murtha came out against last November when he vocalized his opposition to the war on national television. While Irey has received campaign contributions at this point from across the nation, she said those she's proudest of have come from soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The "diversity of support" Irey's received is what she said keeps her going. It's become obvious that her 32-year incumbent needs to go.
"He's out of touch," she said, asserting that makes his home in Washington, not Pennsylvania with his constituents.
Currently serving her third term as county commissioner, Irey said this is the first campaign in which she's focused on the negative. But with Murtha's record of corruption as blatant as it is, there was little else to focus on.
"Mr. Murtha has a history of corruption," she said, "and we're exposing his history of corruption.
"I call it 'whacking Jack,'" she later add. "I'm 'whacking Jack' every chance I get."

I LOVE IT!!
Why that's better than "We got your back Jack"!!!!!!
Ping for more pings
ROTFLMGO!
Why is this???
Anyone know what the polls are in this race to date?
Mighty Mite!
Working against her is taht many people in her districts also love pork. Murtha's backers don't care if Murtha and his brother take their " commission" so long as they also get theirs.
Because she's a genuine conservative?
I'd vote for her on looks alone. She's hot!!!
Diana Irey....You Don't Know Jack....BootMurtha....Vets4Irey
BTTT
This lady has guts. Everyone should support her inspiring campaign.
If we had one like Diana Irey in every state, it would be a different country.
While Irey has received campaign contributions at this point from across the nation, she said those she's proudest of have come from soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Yep! All 50 states and both theaters in the WOT!
Help DIANA win! - You dont know Jack! - Vets 4 IREY
Boot Murtha! - Murtha must GO - CensureMurtha
Anyone wishing to be added to the IREY/Murtha ping list let me know!
You hadn't posted when I first looked. I should have checked after a brief phone call.
That was a great line! Thanks for the post W04.....you beat me to it. ;*)
"Whacking Jack" is worth a double ping anyday. :-)
Well, it doesn't help when the Chairman of the PA GOP votes for Murtha.
I cannot deny that Murtha has done a wonderful job for our region, said state GOP Chairman Rob Gleason of Johnstown. Hes brought home the bacon. If thats how you want to judge a congressman or any elected official, he gets five stars. Tribune Democrat, 7-9-06
Gleason is a diversified corporation comprised of three complementary companies: Gleason Insurance, Gleason Financial and Gleason Technology. From creating unique insurance programs to revolutionizing facility inspection processes, Gleason consistently provides innovative and cost efficient solutions to a diverse national client list.
Robert A. Gleason, Jr. Chairman and CEO
In 2000, Rob served as Chairman of The Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers, an organization that represents the 300 largest insurance brokers in the United States. The Council places 80% - more than $90 billion - of the commercial property/casualty insurance premiums in the United States. They also provide industry leadership, visible and effective representation before government, executive training and agency management programs.
This gives new meaning to Mr. Gleason's past comments, IMO. He is decidedly working against the Republican challenger. WHY??? Is he afraid the BACON won't land in HIS frying pan unless Murtha is there to throw it in?
"We're all kind of perplexed," said Robert Gleason Jr., an insurance executive and chairman of the local Republican committee, who said he had put aside party loyalties and voted for Murtha in the past.
LOL! Agreed! ;*)
