Polls Show Democrats Not Connecting With Angelides.
Former Assembly speaker and San Francisco mayor Willie Brown on Friday predicted that fellow Democrat Phil Angelides will lose his campaign for governor.
Brown's forecast came during a fundraising breakfast for his public policy institute, which drew many of the state's top elected officials, including Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
With a nod to the Republican governor, who was seated in the audience, Brown told several hundred well-connected listeners that Schwarzenegger will win his bid for a full term next month.
"No matter what, I think he'll be re-elected governor," Brown said.
Angelides campaign spokesman Brian Brokaw noted that Brown had predicted that state Controller Steve Westly would win the Democratic nomination for governor in the June primary.
"With all due respect to Mayor Brown, his crystal ball has been cloudy before," Brokaw said.
Angelides was invited to the event but declined to attend, said another spokesman, Steve Maviglio. His campaign also told CBS 5 that Angelides had to attend private events in Sacramento.
"I invited him Phil Angelides on three seperate occastions -- didn't even set the date," Brown said. "I said, 'I'm going to do another of my breakfasts, and I believe you should attend.'
No matter what you think your presence is any other place or what your presence needs to be, if it is a showcase place, you can't afford to be in the hitherlands. You've got to be there."

Angelides probably doesn't want to be seen in public after allowing his campaign to show an ad saying that his seeing a "Dump Nixon" poster when he was a little boy completely "changed his life forever."

LOL! I'm not in CA, but it seems to me that if a Dem candidate for governor won't go to the Dem holy city of SF and steal ask for money from those most likely to contribute, something's wrong. : )
