Ball State players under arrest

Muncie - Police say it started with a fire alarm at a Ball State University Dorm early Friday, and it led to the arrests of two football players. The students, 19-year-old cornerback Eulas Taylor and 18-year-old redshirt freshman linebacker Brandon Houston, are jailed on burglary charges. The pair is accused of stealing three laptop computers from two student rooms.

Assistant Chief Bob Fey of the Ball State Police Department described the events of Friday morning. "One individual had thrown a package down to another individual and took off. They tried to make contact with him and he left the area. So our police canine located him and the bag which had the computers in it."

Fey says Taylor was caught with the laptops leading to the arrest of Houston. Both are at Ball State on athletic scholarships.

Taylor and Houston were arrested at 9:30 Friday morning, just three hours before Taylor was to leave with Ball State's football team for a game on Saturday in Michigan.

Both players are suspended indefinitely by Ball State's football team. The athletic department says before last weeks game, Taylor had been suspended for a violation of team rules. Both athletes face sanctions by the University that could include expulsion.

Dean Of Students Kay Bales says it's still too early to determine what sanctions the University will take.

"Anything from service to suspension to probation to expulsion from the University," she said. "It's very difficult to speculate in these situations what may happen to students."

Both students remain in jail, facing sanctions by the University with their football careers at Ball State now in jeopardy.

Why aren't they facing criminal charges?

"No racial comments please."

I noticed that when I read the article. I chose to ignore it but I shouldn't. What Christians SHOULD know and others too is God loves all of us. We are special. Humans are created in HIS image. I guarantee you, that in heaven there will be MANY skin colors. Right on down to fingerprints, each is unique.

The university might also consider disciplining the coaches who recruited these kids. I would be surprised if they hadn't had serious problems in high school that were overlooked because of their football talent.

If I was one of these cows going to the slaughter, I would do something stupid too.

You can take the thug out of the hood but not the hood out of the thug.

"their football careers at Ball State now in jeopardy."

Not to worry, they can always transfer to the University of Miami (of course, they have to avoid jail first;)

I agree. Unfortunately, it's so common for high-school athletes to be given a pass on illegal activities. It's very bad for them.

I noticed both of these young men were from my homestate-Georgia. We sure do like sending our problem children out of state, AND YOU CAN KEEP THEM IN INDIANA. I'll assure you they had no idea what to do with a computer anyway as it doesn't look like a football, but whatever! Sad story about two real losers.
