Ian Anderson, leader of the British band, Jethro Tull, was in Indianapolis last night as part of his solo tour of North America. It was an exceptional show, backed by members of the New England Conservatory of Music of Boston and a small band not of Jethro Tull. Though Ian is a Euro-liberal, he made mention of a an ongoing email correspondence with, as he put it, "the number two man in the White House, Tony Snow". It turns out that Tony is a flute player and cites Ian as an inspiration. Ian mentioned he was delighted to have rec'd an email from Tony a few days ago. He commended Tony on his fight with cancer, calling him a survivor, as well as the right person to be press secretary. He dedicated the West Side Story song, America (Keith Emerson arrangement) to him and played it very well.
Interesting. Tony is the best I've ever seen.
Cool.
Sounds like an awesome show! I spent many hours trying to mimic Ian Anderson's sound. No one 'overblows' with such perfection like him!
Bump for Tony, Ian, and Jethro.
I saw Anderson's show and it is quite good, if they play in your area it's worth the ticket and a long drive to see.
Although it's mostly (but not all) Tull music, it's a fresh take. The concert I saw, they played Aaron Copeland, Bernstein, and Led Zep as well as Jethro Tull music.
His "Flute Solo Live" is awesome!
Ping for your interest.
Is it possible that a musically-trained mind is more cognizant of "flavors?"
Studio Musicians tend not to have Humongous Egos as.. let's say.. the Roger Waters types.
Never thought of it that way, but you are correct.
I say him last year when he toured with a young violinists Lucia Micarelli, who in some ways stole the show. It was a very good show.

Thank you for the ping. Number 2 man in the White House. LOL. That's our Tony.
ping just 'cause I love their music and thought you'd find this intriguing.
Tony is a very good musician.
Dagnabbit! No shows in North Texas...
It certainly was. He's gone through and added and changed arrangements to various Tull songs, most of them being jazzier or orchestral-ier and definitely not as loud as a typical Tull concert (though loud enough to hoop and holler with). He composed most of the orchestral parts himself. He has a guest violinist, Ann Marie Calhoun, touring with him. He described her as a physics teacher of Univ of Virginia(?) who was allowed to go on tour with him. She's classically trained but harkened back to her Appalachian roots and played bluegrass throughout, including a several minute segment in Locomotive Breath. I took my 16 yo daughter with me. She was the youngest person there. Everyone else looked like me, the only difference being whether they weighed thirty pound more than or less than her old man.
Snot running down his nose!
...but he did have his kerchief at the ready, even if it was wrapped around his cranium.
