What you failed to take into consideration was the fact that many teens live in homes where there is violence, abuse, drug problems and incest

This statement is just absurd.

This statement is just absurd.

What Country do you live in, may I ask? If you don't think this is true, you're either deaf, dumb or blind.

Its not absurd, claiming there are many is not absurd.

Statistically they may be a small percentage of the teen population, but even 1% (Which is a small percentage of the teen population) adds up to MANY individuals. Even .1% would be MANY individuals, even if it is a statistically small percentage. I think the issue here is the parent didn't take the childs warning about her parents harming her seriously, because nearly all teens are meladramatic about their parents "killing them" for this or that. So most folks would never bother to ask a kid, "Do your parents abuse or beat you?" when they hear such a statement, the defacto just assume is the usual teenage drama and angst. Unfortunately there are indeed situations where it isn't, and now this person knows that for this girl they aren't.

Hopefully this "parent" will now face the full brunt of the law and be locked up for a long long time, if not worse.

Unfortunately this statement is very true today. It is impossible to watch tv for a week without numerous stories of child death by parents, abuse of wives (and parents), drugs, etc., etc. The biggest drain on state human service budgets throughout the country is having to place children found in meth lab homes into foster care. Up to 50% of those budgets are involved with this type of drug abuse.

To say that the statement is absurd is a reflection on the don't see, don't tell attitude of too many of our population.

Why do you say that? I personally know of teens who were molested by family members and teens who were beaten. One of my adopted sons came from a mother who kept him in the house just so he would get the beatings his drunken father meant for her. Many teens don't talk about their home lives and just try to hold on until they can get out of the home. Many parents do use drugs or drink and get violent. I don't know if it is a true story but I do know from having teenagers that my teens friends didn't always have the best home life. I know of girls who were told to get out when they became pregnant at the age of 16. Why do you think so many teens run away or try to kill themselves or turn to drugs? I know of cases where the mother has smoked pot with her kids and bought them beer. I have seen black and blue marks on girls from their parents. I don't understand why you think it is an absurd statement, it is not. Where do you get your facts that this doesn't happen? You need to take off your rose tinted glasses. I don't believe most of what Abby writes and I don't like her advice much either.
